Powerbuilt Backtap

Post by Jdflyer »

Hi Everyone!

Would have posted this sooner, but I just got back from taking my family to Florida for Spring Break.

I had some problems with a cross threaded spark plug in the number 4 cylinder on a 1600 aluminum head when I first got the car. Not wanting to pull the head or insert a helicoil initially I order this back tap from Amazon.

What I did was collapse the threads on the tap and cover them with grease to catch any filing. Then inserted the tap into the spark plug hole and turned the knob on the back to expand the treads. When I felt the tap grab I turned the tap out. I did this about 3-4 times before reaching the full extension of the tap. I also clean and reapplied new grease after each cut.

When I was done the spark plug threaded right into the hole without any issues.
