Flasher Switch

My headlights are working fine. Reference the topic I recently closed. Now am on to a new issue with my hazard switch. My turn signals and break lights were not working properly. They were dim and in certain cases just would not work at the same time as the break lights.

1) At great expense, I replaced the turn signal switch with a new factory part from DatsunParts.com. It works (although the arm is bent toward the steering wheel making it a problem...not sure why the arm is bent while my older versions are straight).
2) My friend and mechanic, tested the circuit and asserts that the flasher switch itself is bad. For some reason, it cannot get the power it needs for the flashers to operate.

My friend's solution, was to use the power from the signal switch to power the hazards. By doing this, I now have most of what I need and a few side effects:

What works and side effects
1. Left / Right signals work front and back (although the left front signal is dim).
2. Left / Right signals work while break and lights are activated.
3. Hazard switch works when pulled; however, either left or right turn signal needs to be on (side effect #1).
(side effect#2) When the break is applied, both left and right turn signal switches light up along with the front turning lights.

I am at the point, where I am close; however, it's still wonky and I really just want it to work as designed. I am willing to build a new switch from scratch if maybe I had a little more guidance or someone knew where I could get one. Weather is warming, and I am also getting to the point where I need to just starting doing my own trouble shooting. No more delegation. =)

I have looked closed at this diagram and I don't see why it would be impossible to design a new switch from scratch. Making it look nice might be the trick: http://www.311s.org/PDFs/1969-70%20Dats ... 20rev9.pdf I have asked my brother who does a bit of simple electronics if he might have ideas.

Any help appreciated.

Simplest solution, get a good used one and put it in. Did you buy the one on ebay?

I was able to open my headlight switch by bending the small tabs, clean the contacts, reassemble it, and it worked. I don't know if you can open the flasher switch and do the same, sorry I can't find the spare one I thought I had to check.

You can open it but you have to be careful. The tabs don't like to be bent back and forth much. These a couple items inside that can fall out.

First. undo what your friend rewired.

To ByPass the Hazard Switch connect Pins 4 and 5 - both green wires - power for the turnsignal
and Pins 6 and 7 both green and yellow - power for the brake lights

Now go about fixing all your lights.
Your dim light is most likely a bad ground....either between the bulb and the base or in the wiring.
Yes, it would be easy to make a Hazard Flasher Switch, but because they get used so little, its hard for me to think they are the problem.

Tell us what is going on and we can help.

For a new switch you need at least a double throw, 5 pole switch. You can't the 5 wires on the one side of the switch contacting each other when the switch is off. It will screw up normal operation.

I figured out to duplicate the 67.5-68 switch I would need a DT4P switch. They are hard to find.

I’ve taken apart my hazard switch, cleaned all the contacts and put it back together. It’s pretty easy.

Learning to use a multimeter is a very good 1st start ,
& current flows pos to neg , or... is it neg to pos ?
