68 2000 in Colorado

Post by PatrickInColorado »

Hey Everybody!

I just bought this guy in November. My brother and I have been looking for our dad's 68 2000. After he passed away, his sister sold the car, and now we're trying to track it down. We're pretty confident it was SRL311-02006. No luck yet. But in my search, I happened across this car at a dealership in Denver and immediately bought it figuring it was close enough until I find his. I love this thing! I already snapped the accelerator cable during some, uh, spirited driving. Had a replacement from Datsunparts.com within a week and put it in, so I'm back on the road as often as the Colorado Winter will let me be. The addiction is real!

I would be so, SO grateful for any help in tracking down my dad's car. It would mean a lot to my siblings and I. But until we find that one, I'm looking forward to enjoying this one and leaning on the wonderful people here for tips on keeping it on the road. I plan on racking up some miles on it!

Thanks in advance!

Patrick

Welcome, glad you are loving it, I checked the registry, and that Serial number is not listed, though it should indeed be for a 68.
Good luck with the search and enjoy the ride!!

When was the car sold? Do you have any leads? State it was sold to? Best of luck!

We don't have a timeline...it's a little bit of a sore spot that the car left the family...but it was sold in Colorado, and then supposedly sold again, but we're not sure where. We basically have the VIN and this picture, sooo, not much to go on. It sounds like my aunt spent a good amount of money refurbishing it before she got rid of it, so the hope is that it was nice enough to not get parted out.

UPDATE! After Mike Young pointed out on instagram that I probably had the wrong VIN, we did some digging and found the right one! SRL31110256.

The search continues!

Welcome to the Family! Love the story and hope you find the car. My wife's dad had a '69 Porsche 912 he bought new that he sold about two years before I came on the scene. My wife really wanted that car, but because it was a manual and the dual carbs required "special knowledge" (which I have) he decided to not sell it to her (😣). He still had paperwork on the car, and we located the Vin etc a year or so ago, then contacted the Porsche registry, locating the car in Ohio now (from WA state). Unfortunately the value of even 912s has gone up considerably and the owner was not interested in selling. Maybe someday that car will come back home.
Good luck in your search!

Good luck on your search for your dads car. I found and now own my dads and during the restoration process and beyond it has brought a lot of memories of my dad. Most of all I remember his smile while he was driving it because I think I have it too.

Welcome Patrick. I am curious as to what you paid for your current car at the dealer and if you plan on selling it once you've located your dads car. If you have the roadster bug as bad as most of us, I wouldn't be surprised if you kept both. Good luck on your search.
Ive seen normal. It aint pretty.
