Longtime owner - Restoration started!

I've owned my "70 2000 Roadster since about 1977. It was driven hard and put away wet by it's previous 5 owners and I bought it out of a field from the sister of the then current owner who was in jail! It was the first car that I ever bought. Ran it until I moved out of my parents home in 1980. Parked it sideways on dollies in the back of their garage where it sat until about 8 years ago when my father passed away. Moved it to my garage where it sat on the same dollies. Restoration finally started now - 35 years since it was last on the road.

I'm shocked by the amount of information available here and by the unbelievable parts support.

Welcome, you will find more information here than you thought possible. There are several of us here, that like you are bring roadsters back to life that we've owned for 30 years or so. Whatever you do, don't look at any of the pictures that Alvin posts. He will make you constantly up your game and cost you thousands of dollars!! Enjoy the ride, it's a real journey. Mike

Thanks for the well wishes! My primary role in this journey at this point is helper, gofer and parts guy while body work is going to a good friend who is the skill part. Although all four fenders are affected by the tin worm, I did have the foresight to get fenders from Datsun/Nissan back in 1980! So far the pleasant surprise is that things aren't as bad as first assumed by the length of dormancy and fender rust. Will post pics later this week.

Some pics as requested. Doors, bumpers, hood, trunk, front fenders off. Interior out. Undercoated in a previous life. Probably saved it as the rust isn't too bad. Floors solid. Undercoating is a probroblem now though as it needs to be scrapped off which isn't too bad in flat open places but is a pain elsewhere. Is it worth really going crazy, completely stripping it down and having it dipped?

It would not suggest dipping...hard to get the solvent out of tight spaces and seems. You can by a undercoating cleaner (solvent) from Eastwood. Works pretty well. Still it's a real PITA to get off. I used the solvent and a wire brush and lots of old rags...

Looks like a yellow TVR next door...?

Thanks for the heads up on the Eastwood product. I'll check it out.

Sweet!

What's under the car cover...Opel GT? Some exotic Lancia? Has the high front fenders working....
