Wish List for Custom Parts

Post by shanerc80 »

Hello All,

I work in the manufacturing industry and have access to different CNC and Screw forming vendors. I am trying to see if there is a need for any custom screws or parts that seem to be hard to find, too expensive, or just have a cool factor.

I would love to contribute to the Datsun Community and obviously better my own Roadster in the process.

What's on your wish list?
1967.5 Datsun Roadster 1600 Resto Mod
R16 #R53282 and R59027(Spare)
Restoration Status = My expectations are realistic. This will be a LONG project.

Hi Shanerc80 - Just search for "unobtanium" on this site and I bet you can get a few ideas in a hurry!

SU carb bowl screws seem to be a common "want".

I know the correct bolts for the timing cover and water pump for the U20 are very hard to find.

I think the bolts for the SU carb float bowl lids and maybe the domes are an uncommon thread pitch.

The SU carb screws pre ISO metric 5 x .75. I would love to see those made as close as possible to the original head style.

I was thinking of doing a small run of these to see how many people may be interested. I'm not 100% sure I can match the original head style. I was going to run Stainless Steel with an allen head. Could you see this being a problem? If the original Button Head Phillips is a must, I will see what I can do.

I would prefer the original Button Head Phillips for restoration but allen head would be a close second. I would be happy to check out a sample or two and commit to purchase a couple hundred if the price is at all reasonable. Do you have any idea what price would make it worth while for you?

Keith, I just want to clarify, is this screw used in ALL SU carbs for Roadsters or is this limited to specific years? I am also trying to find the exact length. I don't want to reference my carbs because I'm not 100% sure the hardware is original.

I will not know pricing until I determine a quantity to order. Obviously the more I produce, the cheaper they will be, but don't want to sit on a lot and be out of pocket too much money. I will let you know when I have better details.

I just measured a couple of float bowl screws and I'm showing the screw to be 5mm x .80 x 15mm long.

Some of the later 2L and Z car carbs are 5 x .8 . Those are easy to replace as they are the modern ISO metric. The early 2L and all of the 1600 SU carbs were the pre-ISO French metric 5 X .75 .

Tim, I would be more than happy to return them.
