I am debating what engine to go with and I have seen A bunch of different numbers thrown out but have no Idea what they are.

SR20
U20
SU
CA18
SR20DE
SR20DET
16
KA24
S13
FJ20
S14
S15
etc....

What are the difference in them?
Which is the best bang for the buck?
Which is the most common?

Is there a list of what each engine is with average HP ratings?
Which engines are stock?
Which engines are out of others cars that will work and what cars are they out of?
I know the SR20DET is a favorite but have no idea what cars to get them from.

I currently have a 66' 1600 and I am trying to decide between rebuilding the stock engine or going with something different.

A guide on engine choices would be an awesome asset that I am sure many newbs would find immensely useful.


One of you guru's care to take the time to write up a quick list or can you point me to one that already exists? I could not find one with the search function

They are all the same. Fuel in, air in. Power out.

Details vary. SU, S13, S14 are not engines. 16 without prefix is vague.

A lot of good info to start me off.

I didn't look on google too much as I figured it would be best to go straight to the forum dedicated to the roadster.
