1970 - SPL to SRL I am working on

Post by Andy_In_SD »

I guess this is where folks put info on their 311 builds / rebuilds etc....

I am setting up a 1970 SPL to SRL conversion (U20 w 5 speed) for myself. The drive train is done and is strong and sound. I am currently doing the bodywork, ripping out bondo & rust, and welding in new steel where needed. I've taken pics along the way when I remember. So I'll drop some in here.

I have a lengthy to-do list. I've verified & redone a good chunk of wiring, still have some to go. Still have rot/bondo to remove. Paint, rechroming still to be done. I have to redo the entire interior.

The car will be gloss black, the interior will be red textured vinyl with lighter red highlight areas as needed. Stitching will be orange. The Z style dash goes (I've always preferred the 67.5 and prior flat dashes). It will be African zebrawood, flat dash with speedhut gauges (black lettering on white background).

So anyway, a pic is obligatory. This is while I was chopping out the rotten exhaust that came with the car and welding up / installing a 2" exhaust with a glass pack.

Looking forward to seeing more of this! I'm with you on the earlier flat dashes. Love those and the white exterior with red/black combo interior! Anyways, good luck on your build.

Cheers,
Wade

Todays effort. You can see the state I found the post in after pulling the fender (upper left). After chopping the rot out, and prepping I was able to fabricate new steel parts and weld them in, including the hidden sheet metal on the inside. As I have the fender off, tomorrow I am hoping to be able to put in the new front shock on that side, time, weather and wife permitting.
