VG30DETT

The guy is better at fabbing than I am. I don't think the car will carry its stock lines when done, a lot of chopping and fiberglass fenders will deff give this car away. Could you imagine driving a roadster with that much hp and torque?

God, I hate to say it, but I don't know if it will work. I mean, VG30DETT barely fits in a 240, and the engine bay is pretty big!

Shit, it barely fits in a Z32!

If you've ever worked on one and have ever dropped a wrench in there, you know what I'm talking about.
He will definitely have to do something about the alternator since it hangs so low on the VG...
And I don't think he will do too badly with traction as long as he gets some good (R compound) tires. Maybe a passenger would help when he drag races

Might actually be cool if he gets upgraded turbos. The lag might work in his favor and have some kickass top end~
Btw, what axles would you use if you shortened a 240sx IRS?

Yeah, I'd seen than before. The 510 engine bay is actually not that bad as far as width goes, just not much room up front....I don't know why, but for some reason, I imagine a VG30DET totally twisting up the 510 unibody like a salty pretzel.

It turns out that he lives just around the corner from me here in Victoria! He (John) is heading to Japan for a couple of weeks. When he gets back we're going to get together and swap stories. If it runs I'm hoping for a shotgun seat someday!

Hi all, that swap is definitely going to be crazy. Alot of fab work for the body to drop around all that stuff. Although I do have a 63 Datsun NL320 that has a 5.0HO motor in it. Overall it wasnt that bad. Mainly the firewall was pushed in 2 inches, and installed the posi rear end and 5 speed. The only major mod is cutting the driveshaft and making all the motor/tranny mounts.

this is O/T but for a crazy swap look at this site. I also have a BMW 2002 that I am working on. This is one of the most radical swaps without going to tube chassis's and such I have seen.

I did not go through the site, so I won't comment on the swap. The paint job looks to me like the Partridge Family bought a BMW...

the paint is a copy of a famous series of cars done by the likes of Andy Warhol (hence the wild scheme) and few other masters in the art world. Look at the swap forget about the paint.

FWIW, it's also pretty easy to shorten the 240SX axles, then have them rebalanced.
On OZDAT there's a guy with that suspension in a 510 wagon, narrowed about 6" total.

As my Daddy would say, "Son, some people have all their taste in their mouths".
Personally, I think it looks assly. He has removed all the signature lines that make a 510 what it is. Looks more like some early 90s street rod than a Datsun.

I think the yellow is perfect and the rims just set it off! but we all have our opinions!

My ears are burning - didn't know you guys were talking about me..
As of September, the frame's rolling, and just needs a crossmember/tranny mount to be done. I would have finished it and installed the drivetrain over the christmas holidays, but I was sick as a dog. bummer.
For those of you who are curious about the width and the overall look of the car, I intend to widen the entire body so that it retains most of it's charm, but just looks meaner.

This will provide more width in the engine bay and eliminate the need for unsightly fender flares. How I end up doing it remains to be seen - probably a cut right down the middle, or some variation thereof.

heh - that's where I got the idea...!
I wish there was an update on that site - I'd like to see the finished product.

Here's one that's going through the shop right now, an RB25DET in a TR6. Hey, they're both 2.5 litre inline sixes! But one makes just a little more horsepower than the other.
