wheels wheels again again.
So I really want some new wheels for my 69 2000. I have looked at the threads and I have read the faq. It seems like the only choice for a new 'gaureenteed' to fit wheel is the panasport. I like how they look okay but I don't super love them and everybody has them. I like how the 16's look the best.
What would a set of 16" Panasports set me back?
Am I wrong in that it is the only 'new' wheel that will fit?
If I remember correctly panasports are super expensive and I have a hard time justifying them... There was some talk a while back about having some adaptors made-not spacers adaptors. Where you bolt the adaptor on using the stock lug nuts and then the spacer has its own studs-lugs. Using this method you could go to a 5 or 6 bolt pattern if you wanted. If the spacer was the correct thickness you could run wheels made to fit popular cars. I wonder what the most common aftermarket fitting is? Front wheel drive Honda?
I guess what I am trying to decide is between the two options or maybe I will just get some fancier hubcaps and call it good.

Hello Alvin,alving wrote:Daniel,
If everybody has Panasports why are you considering them?
16" Panasports brand new will def run over a $1k.
There are plenty of alternatives for 16" Panasport-style wheels...check ebay for Watanabe, Black Racing, or SSR. Yahoo Japan as well.
If you want to run a 4-5 lug adaptor remember that most import FWD cars are actually FOUR-lug and 4x100mm bolt spacing, ie Honda. And then those FWD wheels run a FWD offset...you'll run into some serious clearance issues like rubbing leaf springs and not clearing brake calipers/sway bar!
If you're set on a 16" wheel just make sure it is near 15mm offset, otherwise it won't clear stock fenders on a lowered roadster.
I'm not dead set against them (panasports) thats why I am still considering them. I just like to be a bit more different I guess.
I wasn't saying that I wanted to run 5 lug wheels I was just saying that its possible.
So you think the honda wheels are made in the largest quantitys by the after market. With that as a starting point then it should be possible to have an adaptor made.
At the blackhawk show a couple of years ago there was a vendor selling adaptors for Z's but they will be off for the roadster. That vendor was not interested in making a roadster adaptor.
It seems to me that if someone where to make these there would be demand from folks. I mean honda wheels at Tirerack are so darn cheap (for a lot of them).
If I was going to do it as a one off then I would just go and buy the wheels I like and have the adaptors machined to fit.
For the standard honda FWD wheels you have any idea what the thickness of the spacer would have to be?
Alvin, alving wrote:If being "different" is so important try any JDM RWD wheel like the following...and most of these come ni 16" formats

Hayashi, these are badass if you can make them fit:

And if you REALLY want to be different her are some Advan wheels in THE roadster 15mm offset!

None of those wheels really do it for me either. Like I said guess I'm just weird. Heck lots of people think my modified car looks weird anyways.
of course now if I had the money these are the wheels my car would be running.

But you know its fine really if you are running Panasports- I know you just bought a new set..its just not for me. Heck I'm not even clever enough to get the URL thing to work!

Re: Wheels
Thanks toolsnob thats the kind of info I was looking for. With that combo I won't have to roll the fenders?toolsnob wrote:If you get 16" panasports get them in 16x7 with 11mm offset, they will clear with 205/45's. Last set I bought was about $800-$900.
So $900 for the wheels and then what another $400 for tires? Dang $1300 bucks is just about what I am going to be spending to supercharge my roadster...that's why its hard to justify I guess.

RE:Wheels Again
Here is an alternative to panasports with a much more affordable price.

Superlites 15x 6 w/24 mm offset and with 195/60HR15 tires of your choice. You can buy them from Pack Racing Products, ask for Rich, I have heard he is very helpful.
Here is the link
http://www.packracingproducts.com/page_wheels.html
Click on the fitment guide and go to Nissan. Make sure ask them to send 7/16 lugs and not the 12p1.25 as listed. Also ask for a set of deeper/longer center caps so they will clear the front hubs. In my opinion these look great and are priced close to the Konig's<sp> Rewinds that will not fit.
I am not running these but will if I ever have a need to change out rims and tires. Someone on the roadster list posted this information. I edited it to post on the forum.

I am not sure if these would work but I thought the 15x7 would be nice for wider wheels. I called my local dealer and they were about 185 a piece.

RE:Wheels Again
Yeah, the Superlites do look a lot like Panasports. The rims you like would look good with those flames.
They are pretty pricy though!

Yep the price is why I don't have those rims. If I one the lottery I would have a set of those flame rims made for me.
The price thing is just what kills me on getting nice wheels for the car...Just can't justify it now.
I think have a tempory solution that will go with the 50's buick looking grill I've got.
