I am currently having a play with the front brake set up on my roadster and have a question regarding rim offset.
I have a set of 300ZX front calipers which i am using on a Honda VTIR ventalated disk (bolts straight to hub). I have machined the hub slightly to get the disk to run in the correct location in relationship to the caliper and mounting bracket that i have fabricated.
My concern is the clearance between the o/b face of the caliper to the i/b face of the rim. Does anyone have any idea of the amount of offset that the various rims around have and what might be an option for me.
To avoid confussion i am refuring to the distance from the face of the rim (where it mates to the hub) to the dished part of the i/b side of the rim where the caliper runs.
It all sounds very confusing but we will see what happens.

If I get what you are saying correctly...

Most wheels are flat from the mounting face up to the wheel hoop. I have seen Panasports with additional clearance, but I think they were custom machined and considered race only.

In the past, the solution for most folks was to put in a 1/4" spacer. Not the ideal solution, but it worked for most. Some aftermarket wheels give more clearance than others. I don't think that anyone has really done that analysis in depth though...

The difference in wheel design makes it so that you can't really predict if a wheel will clear the brakes based on just offset alone. Neither is wheel size. I've even seen some 17" wheels that don't clear Z brakes. If someone has a combo that works, I say just go with that. 4lug sucks for good wheel choices.
