Hey all, it's been a LONG time.
I joined years and years ago, but have built 2 mgbs, an austin healey, a 1967 porsche, a 1971 GTx, and a 1971 240z in the meantime.
It's time for my roadster.
I should be picking it up tonight, provided all goes well, and it'll go straight to being an SR20DET car.

Cool, with all that experience, I'm looking forward to watching the build.

Here's the stats, 1964 SPL310 shell. 3-seat car originally. plans are to do a full SR20DET car. This is a project I've wanted to do since 2006 when i first saw Alvin's car.
it'll definitely be a multi year build, and i'll be getting a hold of Mike at spriso once i get the body off and get a better assessment of the chassis. It was definitley wrecked once, the body gaps are okay, but man, it's one of the most solid cars i've seen. The trunk is PERFECT.
The completely mad plan is to build an IRS rear, and tuck everything under the body, but I wouldn't mind doing bolt on flares...

"I don't know how this happens"
and for those of you curious about the GTX:
440 cu. in., .040 over, comp 268 cam, FAST throttle body fuel injection. 727 trans, 3.23 rear sure-grip.

Yes, it's actually a pretty nice car. at least, I've started with WAAAAAY worse than this. (see picture of GTX, 6 years in the making)
I ran across it on ATLCraigslist, then forgot, then ran across it again.

Welcome back, can't wait to see your build. I would have snapped up that 3 seat, but couldn't convince the wife to pick up another vehicle while I am away. Great list of cars you have restored so I imagine this will be a nice build.

Re: Hey all, it's been a LONG time.
....and 3 more years go by....resurrecting again...for real this time.
Looking forward to making progress finally. I got the car to my house, and the GTX went to a storage place just up the road. I might drive it more now.
anyway. I got the car up in the air, took a few measurements, decided on about 5" of ride height and work commenced.
5" will be from the bottom of the frame to the ground plane. i can work with the frame 17" in the air, but the bottom of the tire will sit at 12" off the garage floor.
it's not just bolt and go, both the front and back halves have been stubbed off so new frame can be grafted into place. (much like a Z notch on a hotrod or pickup)

Re: Hey all, it's been a LONG time.
The rear suspension not only needed the frame cut and rebuilt, but it needed sheetmetal work to move the Miata subframe into the trunk area, and eventually into the drivers compartment. (it still needs to come about 1.5" forward)

Sadly-Linda has passed away 2022. She was the 311's den mother and drove the first Rare-Parts ball joint project. RIP.

Re: Hey all, it's been a LONG time.
My biggest challenge has just been getting everything here. It languished in storage for 3 years.
The biggest challenge with the build is setting the datums and deciding on how best to set the stock miata geometry. Measure and measure and measure, and feel like i'm making no progress, then suddenly things are set in place. I need another set of wheel cribs like i have for the front.
