Turn signal switch on 69

Post by JDeatsch »

Ok. So the t/s is on the other side of the steering column.

Has anyone moved theirs to the ahem, correct side?

Inquiring newbies want to know, just ask 'em.

it would be tough to do I'd think. It would mean moving the ignition switch to the passenger side of the column. That would mean the switch would be upside down and the steering lock would be wrong. Assuming you could turn that over and have it function correctly, there is very little slack in the harness so some wire lengthening would be in order although you could probably make up a plug in extender. Of course, you'd have to swap wires on the signal switch so the correct side activated when the switch lever is moved up or down.
I'm sure there are other issues but doesn't seem practical for something I quickly adapted to.

Thanks then Dan, I've no clue how I'll adapt to it, honestly. Just being proactive.

Thank you Sir,

I always struggle a bit if I haven't driven the roadster for a while. Then I struggle a bit (or turn the wipers on to turn right) when I go back to one of the other cars. Luckily a little fumbling with the turn signal stalk is not as life threatening as when I get my big foot stuck behind the brake pedal (that's gotten tense a couple times).
It seems awkward but you'll be surprised how soon you won't notice.

Can you leave the ignition switch where it is and just rotate the turn signal a little to avoid it? The wires could easily be switched (for left and right) and the whole turn stem and be rotated to any position and then tightened as far as I can see?

THAT is prezactly what I was thinking Ed. Shortening the lever for the t/s switch would help too. It does just screw in, shorten it, rethread it, you know...

ALZO, why couldn't one just put the t/s lever straight up and shorten it? It would be out of the way and you'd have to THINK. Or maybe *I* am overthinking this whole deal.

Worked for me.

The switch becomes second nature pretty easily. My big clown feet and the pedals is harder. Piloti shoes help.

Dude. You already have MG tail lights... Don't push your luck. Us Datsun guys are a pretty civil bunch - been awhile since we've had to bring out the pitchforks...

You could install toggle switches under dash like po did to my 67,,,
Left of the column of course.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
