Taking off chrome questions

I am preparing my early 67 roadster for painting. 2 questions arise.
1) How do you get the chrome off the front of the hood. It has no screws holding it on. Pry
it off from underneath? Ouch!
2) My car has the wrong fender side view mirror. I will get the right one. The holes on the fender that the wrong mirror hooked into were 2 5/8 inches apart, center to center. Also one bigger hole off center between the two screw holes. Is that right for the correct mirror or do I need to fill in a hole or two and start over?
Strange questions, but they will help me immensly. Thanks, Mark

I can answer one but not the other. The hood trim is a slip fit. Taking it off is the easy part. Be really careful when you put it back on as you can damage the hood and your brand spanking new paint job if you are not careful. Don't ask how I know.
I will leave the mirror one for someone else.

I think I've answered my own question on the side view mirror. Apparently Datsun used several mirrors on the Roadster (even mixed styles right and left fender!), but all of them are single hole mounted. The two holes I have in my fender are wrong. I'll fill them in when painting. The larger single hole in the middle is the right one. Mark

Note that only one bolt was used, but there was also a locating pin to keep the mirror from turning around. I suggest you get the replacement mirror before you start filling holes - you may need one....

Correct me if I am wrong but, didn't all the mirrors attach to the doors? I know on my 68 the mirror is on the door, as well as the one on my friends 67.5 2000.

I think they appeared on both the door and on the fender. What determined the location I have no idea. Mark
Steve, Still looking for a windshield. Dean A. said he may have a new one in a couple of months for $350 plus $60 shipping. That seems pretty good, but don't want to miss driving the Roadster all summer!

P.S. Notice the drawing at the top of this page. Two mirrors both on fenders. That was an option too I think. Mark

For the US market, the early cars (through and including the early 67) the mirror was on the fender. On the 67.5 - 70 cars the mirror was on the door. US market cars were usually shipped with only one outside mirror. Other markets got multiple mirrors. Japanese market cars often had the mirrors mounted way up on the fenders because of some regulation about the mirror needing to be visible in the swept area of the windshield. The drawing above is one of the early engineering drawings, so it has the Japanese spec mirrors.
