Hello 311s.org!

My name is Jason and I'm the new owner of a 1970 1600. The car came from a retied gentleman in the St. Louis area. It had sat in his auto repair garage since 1994. It hasn't been run since then. He drained all fluids except for the brake fluid I think. All of the fuel, cooling throttle and choke lines were disconnected. There's some surface rust here and there but no holes. Based on the paper work I have available to me it looks to have 51,000 original miles. It also came with new door seals in the original Nissan bags.
Here it is on the trailer as it was going home.


I'm sure I'll have lots of questions about it. Like, can I pull off the emissions equipment without ill effects? Where I live there are no tests.





I'm also the owner of a 1978 280Z. It's currently in 500 pieces in my garage as I rebuild it. It has a number of rusty holes that need patching. I hope to send it off for media blasting in a few weeks. Before the disassemble.

I strongly recommend that you get he car driving (and stopping!) and enjoy it for a while. You'll either bond or not - either way, it's smart to be sure what you are committing to prior to starting any extensive restoration! Welcome to the group and post more pictures when you get them!

Welcome Jason, I cannot see your pics while at work, but just wanted to acknowledge your wise choice to join our addiction! Yes, you can remove smog stuff but it is not just a matter of pulling things off... there is a distributor recurve that is needed, and that is best accomplished by switching to an EI ignition like what is probably on your Z (black box on side of dizzy). Best upgrade you can do for the money! Check our wiki for all the info... a vast treasure trove of knowledge. We're read to help, and unlike many car sites we have no egos here and there are no stupid questions... this is (good) family!

Welcome. I believe there is a place in the Wiki section about pulling the smog controls and, in my opinion, it will run better and maybe even cleaner in the long run. You should check your state laws first. You may have to have it inspected before you register it.
The car looks solid and you have the makings of a great fleet.

I'm pretty excited about it since the body is in pretty darn good shape.

The whole car needs some TLC. But most everything I can figure out. The wiki section on this forum us amazing! Thank for that.

Looks like maybe it has the important part for me, a fire extinguisher. I too have one in my passenger side.
Never needed it though
Still these cars can and have caught on fire.

I would suggest that you don't overrestore the car. Make it a safe driver, and replace what is worn out, but keep the patina.

When and if you do recover your arm rest console box, consider leather.
I singed my elbow for years on the black vinyl, finally did the box in leather.

So the line is "I'm preserving the car in it's un-restored original condition." Sounds good , looks cool and the best part of it is it's less work, less money and you can win trophys.

I thought that carved out dip for the driver's elbow was stock. Every unrestored roadster I've seen has it.
