Roadster at the 2015 La Jolla Concours, April 12

I will be representing the Datsun roadsters in the 2015 La Jolla Concours on April 12th in the ‘Special Interest’ class. There is no ‘Japanese class’ at most Concours shows

. I know my roadster is not the best one in SoCal (took third at the 2014 JCCS. Of course I have done a bit of clean-up since then), but I am glad that a Datsun will be present amidst some of the finest cars in the nation. I don’t expect to win anything, but just glad to be there showing off the Datsun.
I think they were pretty easy on me for entry as my 1970 240Z took first at the La Jolla Concours in 2012 in the Preservation class, beating out a Bently, several Benz’s, Cadillacs and others. Anyway, it is always a fabulous show.
Will let you know how it goes.
Rich

No Japanese class but it's slowly changing.
Congrats on your entry, and to show that Japanese tin has it's place in automotive history.

Thanks, very excited about the opportunity. Nice to see the thread on the Marin event and always good to see the Japanese cars displayed.
Fortunately my wife is out of town for a week so I can get a ton of stuff done on the car. It's all those small details that make a difference.

The things that were are surprise to some at Marin:
1. Having a fire extinguisher
2. Having the top up
3. Checking of the time on the clock
They did check the basics such as all lights, horn, etc.

Good to know. Went through all that with the 240Z, but thought that was only because it was preservation class. Looks like I have my work cut out for me.

Hi John,
Good to hear from you again! Your car is the one that should be in the show here. Thanks again for all of the feedback on my roadster. I have been very busy getting all those items corrected.
Best regards,
Rich

Roadster update:
The cool thing about the La Jolla Concours event is all the promotional stuff that goes on prior to the show. On April 2, I will be at the FOX station with several other cars from the show for a promotional plug. This will be the roadsters debut on TV, so it is very exciting. We arrive at the TV studio at 6:30 AM and the promo will air at 7:20 AM. Hopefully the car gets some good TV time

. I will also take the roadster to the Aston Martin event that evening, should be fun. We will see what else they have in store for the event.
Car updates:
Got the Uniroyal white wall tires installed, cleaned up the trunk, got the oil pressure guage and horns working. I also cleaned up the center console (new stick shift boot and arm pad cover) and some of the interior vinyl. So, the interior is looking pretty nice right now.
Bought some new wire clamps for the engine bay fuel hoses(hope they show up in time) and cleaned up the washer bottle with the ‘retrobright’ formula. Will replace the yellowed electrical connector housings, polish the valve cover and SU tops. I also got the exhaust manifold paint touched up. It came out better than expected. Then will just do an overall engine bay clean.
I will probably take a day off work here soon and polish up the paint and do any touch up work that is needed. Then will spend the Saturday before the show just doing detail clean-up. There is nothing like a car show to help you get your car in shape.

My wife got some screen shots of the FOX 5 'Throttle Thursday' La Jolla Concours promo. If they post the video, I will post the link.
The interviewer asked about the reliability of the Datsuns , seeming to indicate it might be a concern. Of course my response was that the Roadsters and Z's were so reliable that they put the MG's and Triumph's out of business. He moved on to the White Walls after that. Anyway, wife said the interview went great.
