s13 sr20 intake help
I'm in the process of plumbing the intake for my conversion. Anyone out there that has pics and/or suggestions for routing help would be appreciated. My engine is an s13 sr20. I plan on mounting the MAF unit on the radiator core support with the air filter in front of the radiator. Looks like I'll have to snake the plumbing from the MAF to the throttle body. Open to any suggestions, pics appreciated, I'm not good at visualizing in blank space. TIA

Re: s13 sr20 intake help
I used a 2" aluminum U bend. Was unable to locate 2" donuts at the time.

Re: s13 sr20 intake help
My engine is an s13, the throttle body angles upward instead of straight out like the pictured ones. I need to channel my brake/fuel line bending lessons learned to envision the design. I'll order a few different pre-bent pieces and some silicone bends then start mocking up from there.

Cheap mock up method, PVC40 pipe/fittings from the hardware store. That's how I did my plumbing.

Thanks for the help. I should be getting my radiator this week, then work on the intake plumbing. Pat

Re: s13 sr20 intake help
The S13 intake is a little more difficult to make an intake on, because of that upwards tilted throttle body. On both Jason's car (the silver one) and Dave's car (the blue one) we used a 2.5" aluminum intake tube from a Volvo and mounted the MAF on the side of the radiator. While it makes for a nice straight shot from the throttle body, it does require you to trim the core support brace a bit to clear the air cleaner.
Now we mount the MAF to the core and use some tight radius 2.5" bends to make the connection from the MAF to the throttle body. Don't forget that you need to weld in a bung for the air feed to your AAC valve (mounted in the the plenum) so your car will idle correctly.
I will try to get some better images of what we did on the 1500 intake (which also has a S13 engine).

Continue to be amazed and appreciative of Michael's willingness to share his wealth of swap knowledge here. In an age where so many people are focused on the dollar and not relationship, Michael continues to do the exact opposite. Who said good guys finish last? Not in my book.

Re: s13 sr20 intake help
Thanks Greg-- we just want to see as many of these cars back on the road as possible, either with the original engines, or with a new heart.
I have had some fantastic mentors in my life, and feel it is my duty to mentor others who are willing to take on a project such as this-- we all in win in the end. We have been doing SR conversions into roadsters and 510s (and a few other interesting cars) for 15 years now, so there is no need to reinvent the wheel, especially if we can share what we have learned (sometimes the hard way). Being accessible, and helping others has proven to be a smart business plan and customer referrals keep the doors open-- a win-win for sure!
