U Bolt Torque

Post by S Allen »

I put new u-bolts on my axle during the rebuild of my frame. I have looked in all of my books and can find no torque specs for the u-bolt nuts. I just tightened them all evenly until they were snug. Maybe that will be good enough but if someone has the torque for those I would like to know what it should be. Thanks.

torque value

Post by dynaguy »

Steve, Since those are ny-lock nuts, there would be no torque value. The friction caused by the nylon lock portion of the nut causes the relationship between torque values and the clamp load produced to be skewed. I think that snugging them up equally is the plan. Pat Mahoney

Pat,

Thanks for the reply. I kind of thought they would be fine snugged up but I had to ask.
