I saw this part on ebay but had never see this before.
Is it an optional part?

I've never seen one of those before. With cars like ours that would pretty much make the trunk unlockable I would think.

My trunk "cable" is a short piece of piano wire that sticks through a rubber booted hole (and I can still lock the trunk...LOL)

That would not render the trunk unlockable any more than the cable through the floor. There is a better looking option.
