Autopower Roll bar issues and some progress pics

Post by SABLT194 »

Title says it all. Progress continues. Convert frame back from Old School Plating. They did clear CAD. Looks pretty good to me (and they didn't need to disassemble). Not sure what I'm going to do abt that roll bar. No way the top will go all the way down. I was going to make one myself- probably should have!

The car seems to run great so far. Still running 12 lbs of boost and it gets a little twitchy when the boost comes on. Overall it behaves pretty well however. I figured it would blow the tires right off but, from a rolling start in 1st gear it just squirms around for a bit and lays out 2 nice lines behind til its fully hooked up. It actually feels a little quicker than my Pontiac in 1st and 2nd gear. The Pontiac typically runs 11.70's.

Please show us!

The dash looks brilliant!
Love the exhaust, got more pics?

For the roll bar/frame clearance I know it is a tight fit but it should clear with a finger's width on either side. FOr me it's usually a 2-person job to avoid scratches.

Very sweet update!!!

Thanks,

Yea I tried to keep the spirit of a 66 with twin tips. I'm not too sure why- there's not too much 66 stuff on it any more.

It took about 3 revisions on the exhaust till I got what I wanted. On the bright side- I got a lot of extra practice with the tig.

I'll put it up on the lift and shoot some more pics

Sounds like a kick! Maybe you should go bikini top like I did this past year. I never used my soft top, but the bikini was great for hot weather, and helped a lot in the cold.

Great Question! IDUNNO for real. I do plan on putting it on the chassis dyno at some point. I believe a bone stock S14A is about 220 Crank HP. I probably have a little better exhaust flow, and I'm seeing 12 lbs of boost (stock is 7 or 8 I believe). So I'll make a guess it's somewhere around 250+ crank and 220' ish at the wheels. Of course it seems I'm always over optimistic on the internet dyno :)

Might make for an interesting poll? Winner gets bragging rights for about 5 minutes!

E-bay
They're on there all the time. Be prepared to pay too much, but then realize it's kinda a counterfeit deal. That being said, It really looks pretty decent even though I wouldn't consider it true Nissan or Momo no matter what Ebay says.

That's what I suspected...I've seen them on there for way too much and suspected they weren't quite what they were advertised. I ended up with a cheapo fake "NISSAN" one. Anyway, the car looks great!

I'll talk to Woody, he can probably make a better button. His shift knobs and stuff are indcredible.

On the roll bar, I have the same clearance issue. I'm thinking of putting an upward kink in the center, like a factory bar to pull the sides in, or at worst cut it, narrow it and weld in a slug. I need about 1/2" more clearance.

I have the same rollbar and the top folds down and stores very well. I can put the boot over it when down.

I just lust after the sr conversion when they are done well and yours looks nice!

Must be the difference between a Low Windshield and a High Windshield car.

My low windshield rollbar looks similar to the autopower, but the main bar is less angled back allowing the frame top to just barely squeeze by.

This is the only side profile picture I have of my car.

Bump for updates! Is that a 9" or an 8" Given your power levels, what drove you to the rear end choice you made? I'm still thinking about an 8" ford, and thought it would be more than adequate, depending on which engine route I go. Just wondered how others made their decision, from those that didn't go w/an RX7 rear end.
