Sorry for the late notice, thought I had posted this before.

an absolute MUST for me, so feel free to join in.

Pre '75 is the "guideline", if you have entered and break down at the last minute, run what ya got, join in the fun, you'll get slung a few barbs as a "cheater", but we've all had to do it from time to time.

this website is pretty outdated, but when the cars are 37+ years old, whats a few years of old pics matter.

Glendale/Angeles Crest/Palmdale then east thru to Frazier Park (this is a GREAT Stretch, Pine Mntn is epic twisty). usually lunch in Frazier Park, then inland over Cerro Noreste to 166. When we go west you could go back thru Cerro Noreste (also a superb road) or go along 166 and turn left on 133 and go back into Ojai. Figure you'll get to Ojai about 2pm.

166 west is the long straight boring stretch, but then just short of Santa Maria is the left onto Tepesquet Canyon (3pm or so?) and this is another epic road, twisties all the way back to Solvang.

Hell of a day, and end up on the coast.

The overnite is in Vandenburg Village this year, at a quirky Sinatra / Rat Pack era looking motel with a green-ish black water filled pool.

150 total cost pays for room, yummy "awards" dinner back in Glendale at the end, stickers, patches, t-shirt. (let me tell you, this is definitely a non-profit event!)

This is not a competitive event. There are plenty of cruiser paced folks, and all are welcome. (there are a pair of Nash Metropolitans that come every year, and "bring up the rear" shall we say)

I am bummed as I really wanted to do this run this year but the notice is too late for me to make arrangements. I will remember to bug Ferg in August 2015 to fit that run on my schedule. Thanks Ferg!

To the SoCal folks that are free on Sat, consider joining this for part or all of the day. I did that last year and had a blast. A lot of great, fun cars and people. Unfortunately I can't do it this year as I'm out of town this weekend. Next year I hope to do the full event.

Shoot - I thought it was Sunday/Monday - turned up at Chango this AM - no-one there - bugger - hope you all had fun.

as was mentioned before, ~200 miles of twisties per day for two days.
LA to Southern Central California .(Lompoc / Vandenburg Village area)
Overnite at low budget roadside motel ("Creepy Hollow?")
Avoid all freeways at all costs. Imagine doing a search for the location of all signs which read "twisties for next X miles", then just connect the legs.
One could call it a rally but there is no competition.
One could call it a tour, but put a bunch of people in pre '75 sports (and other) cars and they all start wildly chasing each other, so "non-competitive" is not really relevant reference.

Great time great weather. (stayed below triple digits, and once your t-shirt back is soaked, does it really matter?) Great roads, some gorgeous and some unusual vehicles.
Nash Metro with an MGB engine and a slushbox due to his age and mobility, (but this guy drives 205mm of tread on his 155mm tires... you do the math)
MB Pagoda with a Buick V6,
Myers Tow'd with a Corvair engine (and only ~150lbs of weight on front wheels - can you say PLOW!)
Opel Ascona with a GMV6 (and this is an experienced vintage racer, knows Ron Carter from race days)
a cool (modern) Lotus Super Seven that we all got to see for 40-60 seconds each day (in 10 second bursts) while he passed us, cornering at what seemed like fighter jet speeds.
The 4-5 later model Porsche entries were permitted due to low reg numbers.

A brace of gorgeous Alfas from the SF Bay area. A really nice BMW 1600 4 door "newclasse" that was a sleeper from the outside but nicely upgraded engine compartment, suspension, and tasteful, period racing seats.
A brace of 510's showing the whole spectrum:
Orange with a rotary and dual exhaust, sounding much like a 2-stroke Yamaha RD400
Red with an Autech SR20 (Ted Hedman, the photographer of the pics at link below)
Mint green with a Rebello L20B
Dark green bluebird with an SR20DET
My homely roadster, (I didn't drive with the above group) of course running topless. (lotsa sunscreen and wide brim hats of all varieties)

I began the ride with premonitions due to a previous cooling system "event" which I thought boded doom for the roadster driving in extended heat.
Turned out it was completely baseless, car ran like a dream and was pushed to 4-5.5krpms for most of both days. (5500 being my own self-imposed redline)

The only speed-induced “off” of the route was by the modern Porsche crowd, proving once again that if you run in a group and start round robin tournaments of “oh yeah, well watch this..”, eventually someone will either:
• Get in over their head talent/equipment/rubber wise, or
• Encounter an offcamber turn when they are not prepared
No harm done, except some significant paint scratches from barb wire and bruised egos.

Cheeks are sore from 9 hours of grinning for 2 days.

Pics are hard when you have hands full in the twisties, so most of the pics come from the rest stops along the way.

Do you know anything about the Carrera California events? Are they still doing it and when it will be this year?

a bit of talk about this on the TT.
No word from the organizers yet, and the traditional date (i.e." 3rd week in whatever month) coming up pretty soon, so the consensus was that it might not happen this year.
But I'll let you know as soon as I hear more.

I saw something about going to Mexico this year - seems like it either may have just happened - or it is about to - then again - that may be a different organisation - all getting confusing - maybe it was the Targa California - life was so much easier when NFIBMT was pretty much the only local event.

Post what you find out - please.

Targa California was proposing Mexico tour, escorted by federales. Too pricy for me and not my cup o tea.
