Hey Guys, I was researching the volvo caliper upgrade, and came across a post on here from mklotz70 claiming that the 90's volvo 240 had a single line fitting. Post:

So I searched rockauto, and it seems to be true. Link:

So my question is, why arent these calipers being used instead? Is it the girling vs. ate thing?
I notice that on rockauto they list ate, but not girling for these calipers. Thoughts??

Doesnt say on rockautos website. Looks identical to the 75 volvo 240 calipers I have in my garage.

Actually, upon further inspection, I see only one bleeder screw on these. Even better!

How can you tell the difference between ate and girling? And why are we to use girling anyway? I agree with the abs part.

They are shaped differently. My '85 Volvo 245 has Girling calipers, so I know what they look like, and I had an extra set to play with.

I haven't had my hands on any ATE calipers, so I don't know if they fit!

Fitment for 14'' wheels right? But theoretically they may fit a larger wheel?
Can you elaborate on the shape difference? I cant see any differences...

I would also note that the core charge is high.

I noticed that too. Do you have any thoughts on these calipers Phil? I know you have a great deal of valuable knowledge about brakes.

I would have to get a set in my hands to see if they would work.
Most places require a like core for like core, so the cost would be total of the two.
That cuts into the deal....

Im gonna head over to my local autozone and see if theyll take my 75" 240 calipers as cores. They have em listed for $40, $50 core charge.

OK, I was just making sure because I've only seen the 2-into-1 brass manifold used on the non-vented Volvo calipers. I thought maybe you were trying to use those later calipers on the OEM rotors.
