how do you get the chrome headlight sccops to fit well

My headlight scoops don't fit very well. Specifically, the top of the scoop (same plane as the hood) has about a 1/8 gap between it and the fender. I guess I could try to gently bend it down with a soft piece of wood and hammer. Has anybody else had this problem?

I replaced my driver fender before I painted mine and had to add a little body filler. Mike

I noticed the same problem when I was assembling my SP310.
I found that you had to really push to make the trim conform to the contours of the guard.
The scoop needed to be distorted even though it was the original part
I was fortunate in as much as I had to drill new holes for the retaining screws so once I had it in the best position I marked the holes with a pencil, drilled and screwed it well and truly
They turned out fine but now I notice my LHS headlamp is off centre to the scoop
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

We have run into this countless times. the best solution we have found in the body shop is to see how they fit before they are re chromed and adjust accordingly. then when they come back from re chroming, we fit them again and made adjustments to fenders with hammer, dolly, filler, and whatever else will make them fit. The re chroming process distorts the shape of the scoop and that is why we fit them after chroming and before final body work to fender. We pre fit all chrome or stainless parts before paint because doing so after paint is sometimes too late.

New fenders and rechromed scoops. I guess I should be lucky they are even close. Thanks for the explanation Ross!

The passenger side looks like if I redrill the outside screw, I can get a better fit (like Nissanman). However it seems like the screw that controls the vertical elevation needs to be screwed in a little to allow the scoop to fit deep enough. Will have to see if that results in the headlight being pointed into the eyes of approaching driver.

Will look at the driver's side tomorrow.

I ever so slightly elongated the holes in the bucket to center the bucket/lamp to the scoops.
Strait on view they look great, however from certain angles....
Scoops must still be a lil wonky. Maybe adjusting the beam for night driving threw them off.

Ya, mine suck, even after I thought I did the body work to match up better...

My primary problem was that the outside screws were too high so the scoop tilted up from the inside screw and created that top gap. Redrilled/tapped the outside screw and its definitely better. Not perfect, but at least not irritating when I look out the windshield.

Thanks for the support here!

Over the last few weeks, I have been reshaping the LHS headlight scoop to resemble a circle instead of an oval
With the aid of some nice warm sunny days, this is how I'm doing it: -

I release the clamp now and then to check the fit of the scoop.
We are getting there Houston :)
