Haven't had a chance to work on it guys, it's been a crazy week. Plus it's the time of the year when we always have visit at our home. Not only that but my uncle with his magical wood crafting skills is also bussy so yeah. Hopefully I get back on track with progress as soon as 2015 starts.

Wish you all a happy new year by the way! :smt006

Julio,

I too congratulate you on trying to solve a problem the roadsters have had for many years (cracked dashes). PM me your contact information and I'll send you some money so you can continue on working and figuring this out. Maybe turn it into a business, recovering Datsun dashes!

is there a non woven as backing, when you take a woven or knitted backing you can peel this often off.
I aspect the vinyl will better in shape.

Subscribed! What a brilliant idea. I am very excited to see how this goes! Is the new vinyl UV resistant?

Whats up!!! :P
Well, did some progress today on a new dashboard. I peeled all of the old vinyl off and some body filler, yes body filler. I then went ahead and started on planing the base support for the dashboard to reduce the compressing and cracking of the foam. Though I'm still undecided whether I'll be using wood or styrofoam as the support material. Oh another thing, I bought more viynl to have everything ready for when the base and dashboard crack filling gets done. :)

YEAP, that's body filler on foam! :Tosser: I mean I would of expected body filler on a fiberglass dash but on a foam dash, yeah that's just bizarre.

Too those that have contributed with a donation, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I really appreciate everything! :D

So far I've had great success with the new vinyl I purchased, but I'm not too sure as to whether there are vinyl without kitted backing.

Outcome of the first layer being sanded.

More foam being applied to the dashboard, this I didn't finish sanding since I ran out of light.

Feww...Might not seem like much but wow does it take time and diligence to maneuver all that sticky great stuff foam.

P.s Yeah, that's an old nokia phone being used as a sanding block; works wonders. :smt044

Love the use of the old phone as sanding block. Looking great, sculpting in foam, have the merit badge for that one, good on ya. You might want to put an auxiliary support on the backside, as the cured foam will be stiffer (and more brittle) than the old foam.
Great pics, thanks for the update.

you might also remove the VIN plate so you don't have to work around it. You can always pop-rivet it back on.

Hey jcd0402: I have been unable to connect with you via pm or email. Do you still want this car? I think it is in too good of condition to strip / destroy so I want to sell it intact.
