Hi everyone! I'm the proud owner of #SPL311-11096. I purchased it from the previous owner who bought it a couple years ago and didn't have the resources to restore it.

The engine runs and it barely drove onto the trailer I used to tow it down here to San Diego. There are a lot of pieces missing and I thought that this forum would be a great place to begin!

I hope to restore this Datsun to almost original condition. The electrical system will be replaced/upgraded to modern day!

This is my first Datsun and I'm hooked!

Yep, definitely need pics, but welcome.

The GM alternator swap is a good start. While some have gone "Painless", the time spent getting all the ancillaries to jibe with that can be spent on the stock system, which is pretty darn simple and does well once well grounded.
I'd jump on an elec ignition right off the bat too, as it'll solve more than 1/2 of any "carb" problems. Set it and forget it.

It may be a slow process, because I've got two little ones to take care of, but I hope to get it finished by the time they're off to college!

+1 on your documentation, but you do not note any fuses to protect the factory harness from the higher output alternator. Perhaps you already have it covered. If not, consider searching previous posts for suggestions.

Finally, here are some pics I dug up for my 1600. The paint is ok, it's just a shame that the paint shop swiped all the trim.

Imho, I like the trim on roadsters though some do not.

Did you see the trim FS on eBay? Sorry just looked and it ended.
I have early model concave trim on my roadster. Bought from Rallye in '91
It's in perfect condition. I'd trade it for a late set of similar quality btw.

There is a very nice write up on using stick on trim.
