History question.

Why did the 240z come to the US with 4 speeds when we already had 5 speed roadsters on the road?

I think most of the domestic competition for the Z was still running 4 speeds, so maybe they didn't figure they needed the extra gear... Pretty sure Vettes, Camaros and Mustangs of the day were all 4 speed...

Yep, funny. Pete Brock's write-up on the Baja 1000 Z car said they ran a roadster 5 speed in it (and big balloony tires to help with ground clearance, and cushion for the bruisin' I suppose).
