If anyone here on 311s wants one of the X-back systems on Ebay discounted 50$ off the starting price, just PM me and I'll close the auction! No reason to pay Ebay more fees! Jim

JT,

Are these stainless exhaust systems still available? And with the megaphone tip?

I have a 1968 SRL 311. Was considering piecing a system using oval stainless through the frame to keep 2" all the way back. Not sure about the performance aspects. Your system looks to be a better option.

Thanks

They look nice. What do resonators do?

These are stainless duplicates of the original part (since the original parts are expensive, hard to find and rust out).

Resonators mostly just take the raspy-ness out of the exhaust note. Simplistically, they work buy having a chamber in which higher frequencies of the exhaust sound bounce around and are damped out while lower frequency sound passes on through.

Essentially like turning down the treble control on your stereo.

i.e Ricers and bikes with the really annoying raspy loud exhaust need them.

For roadsters, these look really sharp and mellow out the sound a lot, but are still very high flow parts. They do not make your car "super quiet" like a camry etc. Still has a very true sports car note.

Do you have any pics of this one installed? Im thinking that I should just finish off the exhaust system now... I know these arent made for my 68, but I think I remember you mentioning it can be made to work

Only requires swaping the rearmost resonator mount to use the early style resonator on your car and then it all bolts up. Perfect fit sound and l look! Won't rust.

I already reproduced the rear mount, so just pm or email and I'll set you up! Jim

But is there any pics of this installed? Im curious if it looks as good in pics/ real life as it does in my head. My head typically has a good way of skewing the imagery.

Also, Is there any performance downside with a 2" twin tip VS a 2" piped megaphone?

It looks better in real life. Money back if you don't agree and think it is the most beautiful part you have purchased for your car!

I have this piece going into #33 - not installed yet, but will be in soon when the chassis is back (next 6-8 weeks) as the body comes back off for paint.

If you need pics of anything let me know. The resonator is a beautiful piece, but muffler and mounting are great too. Resonator looked so nice I polished the rest to match!
