Trying to breathe life into an old 1600

I just bought a '68 1600 on ebay and am trying to get it up and running, the only problem I am having is locating an intake manifold that will work with what i have. I posted a wanted ad for a weber DGV carb intake, because that is what the car came with, but a friend at work that is in to Z's just gave me a Solex that I think was origional to this era of car. The only markings on the carb are C.40 ADDHE and I am wondering if there was an origional manifold that bolted on to an L18 motor that would work with either one of these carbs. I will be going to the local junkyards this weekend and if any one could give me any hints on which cars to get one of these off of, it would be much appreciated. Also, if there's anyone in San Diego that has one of these, I would love to check it out so i can see what one of these things is supposed to look like assembled!

That sounds like a European Solex carb - either the German or Italian version. Yes, it can be made to work, no, there is not a "stock" manifold to bolt it on. At least not stock as in came through the production line headed for the US. You can find a manifold at http://www.piercemanifolds.com and bolt it on. You may need to work with the linkage, but it can be made to work.

I'll try and take more pictures because I know the ones on ebay go away after a while. It was in surprisingly good shape for a 37 year old vehicle. I think I got a really good deal on this one, of course I need to get it running first to really see

Damen, keep that DGV on there if you can. I had a 510 with that same setup and it ran awesome, good mileage and lots power when the mechanical secondaries open up. And it has an electric choke which is kinda nice.
It looks like you have the adapter plate for that manifold already, so call Pierce manifolds and they should be able to set you up with a linkage kit.

I would like to keep the DGV carb on as well, I measured the hood clearance and I think that it'll fit, I'm going to the junk yard this Saturday and hopefully will be able to find a better manifold to adapt this carb to, I could tell by just looking at the other one that there was a high propensity for leakage, I guess worst case would be that I'll end up woth two different manifold/carb setups. It looks easy enough to swap them out, I think it's be kinda fun to try one and then the other. This is not going to be my daily driver, so I don't think I have ever had the opportunity to really mess with a car the way that I can with this one, without the pressure to have it together by Monday morning. Anyone know where these wheels came from?

I've seen those wheels on only one other car and that was SRL311-00438, a 1967.5 2000 that used to be owned by Bob Klemme and I believe it is now owned by Mike Young.

As I recall, they are British and not very common at all. Other than that I do not know much about them.

Wow, so you really did recognise those rims, I thought that they were Z rims at first, but upon further inspection it says that they were made in Great Britain. I guess it's time to break out the polishing cloth. I'm probably years away from painting this thing, but it's amazing what nice rims and new rubber can do to a car.
