So I was poking around the webber net looking for a motor for the roadster and I came across a Beams 3S engine out of IS300. This thing is supposed to produce around 200 hp (not sure What it is at the wheel). Looks interesting and kinda what I'm looking for, which is to have around 200 to 225 at the wheel with a NA engine.

Anyone know of any that have been done in a roadster or other ride?

Any known issues with the engine ?

Will it fit?

Ect ect....

I have heard it's a good engine, but a bit thirsty. L series sixes have been done before.....so it can probably be done, you'd have to check the height, width and length.....where the shifter would come up.
I'd be more worried about the weight balance with that much up front.

I also thought that this was a six at first as well; but it's in fact a 2.0L 4 cylinder (at least that's what wiki says)

That's one of the reasons I'm flirting with the idea of cramming it in my roadster.

Ford 289. That will give you plenty of N/A power. And it has been done. You may be better off just doing the SR20.

Probably quite rare and hard to get parts for? I don't think they were sold in cars in N. America? Probably hasn't been done. Not many would consider putting a Toyota engine in a Datsun (tho I thought about a 3TC in my car before I rebuilt the stocker). If what you want is something unique that would fit the bill.

A KA24DE can be built to 200+ hp and will give you more torque, but not the revs. Lots done. Parts easily available.
SR20DET will get you 200 at the wheels, many done, instructions/parts available for the swap.
V6's and V8's been done with varying degrees of professionalism and success.
I think there are one or two GM Ecotec powered roadsters, and at least one Ford Zetec powered.
Mazda Miata 1600 and 1800 engines have been used, but I haven't heard if anyone's tried the newer 2L 165 hp model, which may share parts with the 2.3 since it is or was a joint Ford/Mazda engine...(think Duratec)

Pretty much anything can be done, search the web and you'll find a 426 hemi, or something similar, in a Bugeye Sprite.....

Consider your time and budget, and plan accordingly. Have fun with it!

I have been dreaming about pulling the 1.8 liter, 205 HP turbo screamer out of the C250 Benz. It's a rear wheel drive car so the orientation is correct. The engine has a ton of turbo lag torque but is balls out fast. Seems like it would fit. Ahh well, jut a dream.

screaming motor, never seen one swapped into a roadster but several in vintage Toyotas
same orientation (intake/exhaust) is good
pricing is almost SR20DET territory
imho the BEAMS motor looks funky, but an ITB kit makes the look and sound super cool!
F20C/F22C is the ultimate in NA power though 240hp stock!

I would love to throw an f20 in but they are just to expensive. I've found that these beams engines are readily available and reasonably price. About the same as a SR20DE. I guess a at this point I should investigate the mounting to see if it's compatible. I don't really want to do a ton of fab as I am a rookie.

If anyone has any info on these I would be grateful. I have already been poking around the Toyota forums and they love this engine; it appears to be the SR20 of Toyota. And there is quite a bit of info on them.

At the minimum you'll need to fabricate engine mounts, tranny mount, driveshaft and depending on the transmission some tunnel work. Especially if you choose the 6-speed.
Finally, some fab work to get the exhaust header to clear the steering column.

All minor parts of the (headache) joy when it's done!

So I've been looking and this is what I've got so far.

Yes it will fit. It will be tight the oil filter will have to be remote and the tunnel wil have to be enlarged to fit the 6 speed. It will have to be mounted lower to clear the hood and the mounts, from what I'm seeing will need to be possiblly just below th frame. Mind this is all prelim and not exact. But the biggest worry is that massive intake, I just don't know if I have the skill just yet to shoehorn it in there.

I'm thinking KA or SR. But I havent totally walked away from the idea just yet.

Is the intake manifold really that long that it won't clear the inner fender? Are you trying to keep the stock battery location?

Alvin I've been looking at and looking some more and I just don't know. I mean it's gonna tighter virgin on prom night! Take a look at these PDF's I found. I know there by no mean exact but they give a good reference to work from. I've also been poking around the bay of my roadster to compare. Tell me what you think. I truly think it would be a cool swap and a lot of fun, but I don't want my first bite to be to big!
