Leaf Spring Front Bushing Removal

Does anyone have a good idea on how to remove the rear leaf spring front bushings from the leaf springs. I replaced all of my rear bushings but couldn't figure out how to remove the front bushings. These are the bushings with the steel band on the outside. My old bushings are lodged in so tight they aren't moving. I tried spraying some WD40 to loosen them up, but no luck. I didn't want to start hammering for fear that I would damage the old bushings and still not be able to remove them.

The only success I have had is to apply heat from a propane torch. Once it is hot(even burning) you can take a punch and drive it out. Nothing else worked for me. Good luck.

Before you drive out the bushings you might want to check to see if the front sleaved bushings for the rear leaf springs are still available? The comp springs I got from from Ralley came with them installed...Bill

I used to change control arm bushings on old volvos, big RUSTY metal sleeved ones. What worked best was an air chisel. You use a dull chisel and push the side straight in toward the center, the bushing collapses and the diameter decreases. Or use a sharp chisel and split the outer sleeve and then collapse it. It worked about 5 times faster than the factory tool which was a big hollow press tool, 20 minutes v. 1 1/2 hours.

If that doesn't do it, the other ideas sound good. Maybe a hole saw and some water so it doesn't catch fire and drill the rubber right out of the middle? Just a thought.
