As I find them...

Post by mitch_04 »

Figured I'd list parts as I'm finding them for my 1970 Datsun SRL311/2000. It's not running or assembled yet, so until things are running and driving I'm relying on companies catalogs. We run an automotive shop so we have a decent access to some of these things. √ means I have it installed and it works.

√Lower Timing Chain - Cloyes 9-4054

√Rear Shocks - KYB 343136

√Front Shocks - 343138

√Oil Filter - Wix 51361 (worked with drainback tube)

√Distributor Cap - Standard JH-110

Distributor Rotor - Standard JH-72

√Ignition Wires - Federal Pro Series 29409

√Spark Plugs - NGK 7734

√Thermostat - Gates 33478

√Electronic Ignition - Pertronix Ignitor 1741, Ignitor 2 91741

√Alternator Bearings - 201SS (Rear), 203FF (Front)

√Voltage Regulator - Standard VR121, AC Delco E661, Wells VR728

Will add more as I come across them...

I don't think that WIX Filter works with the anti-drainback tube, if you want to use one. The WIX that I use is 51512.

Could you post a pic of this tube? My engine was not disassembled by me and I'm hoping not to miss anything during reassembly. Also, was it on all years and engines?

I'm guessing by your smiley face that these cars don't have a PCV valve. As I stated, the car came disassembled and I don't know what is or is not there. I'm simply looking up and ordering parts that I put on vehicles when I rebuild them. It listed one, so I ordered it and put it on here. I can send back anything free of charge if it is wrong or does not fit.

Also, I did some looking and found that the "foot" and spring of a Cloyes tensioner, number 9-5005, will fit the lower (I believe, it's the smaller of the 2) tensioner. The block is the same, however it is a mirror of the original so it doesn't work since the oil port is facing out instead of in. If you flip it then you are on the pointing the wrong way or the bolts don't line up. The new spring seems to be stiffer as well, this could be because of my old one being worn or an upgrade. Either way, I consider it a positive and it keeps me from having to replace one of the tensioners!

Does that work with the original Nissan filter? I'm assuming it's so the oil pressure builds faster on start up by stopping the oil from flowing back out of the filter...

Seems everyone uses some of the same software for parts listing programs, and it has some errors. PCV valves, rear brake shoes, plug wires are a few that are either wrong application, usually 510 or 1600 pickup L16 or non-existant. Rebuilt water pumps, among other parts, can be mixed up, order an R16, get a U20 or vice versa or just plain wrong.
Keep looking, you may find something we haven't.

I'm just glad I found that tensioner, for less than $10 I can replace the worn rubber. The pic makes it look a little different, but it's identical to the original.

I don't have an original nissan filter, but I'm sure it works with it, as they were in the car originally. There are several threads on here about the usefulness of the tube, but it came that way from the factory. Filter technology has progressed in the past 50 years, and a lot of filters now come with anti-drainback features.

I will do a little looking through all of the boxes of parts I have to see if it's in any of them, if not I'll have Dean send me one.

I checked carpartsmanual.com and they don't show the tube, probably why I missed it!

Are you saying you can use that head on your upper tensioner? Or the lower? or Either?
R16 U20 or other?

I believe it was the lower. I had to trim a touch of the rubber off the side, I mic'ed it and it was the same diameter as the original. Haven't hit any problems with it yet, but the engine only has roughly 10 miles and maybe 4 hours of run time.
