I first came to this site with a 1968 spl, but have since sold my first project and will be concentrating my efforts on this 1966. I bought the car a few months ago, and I have been hesitant to post pictures due to the "interesting" hood modification that was done by a previous owner. So far I did some patch work on floors and coated them with Por15; have a nice fuel tank prepped and ready to put on; and nearly done with the brakes. She will just need a tune up and then she should be ready to take down the road. The engine is out of 73' Datsun 610 and I hope to drop it down enough to put an original hood on. Does anyone know if a kit is still made for the L series engines? Anyway, I appreciate any feedback, but don't hassle me to much about the hood ha ha.

No kit is still available to my knowledge. That is an interesting car. Power brakes too. A side draft intake may help lower the engine line a bit.

It is interesting, feel free to post more pictures. We can all learn from al the different mods and "interpretations" out there. I'm sure Alvin could add to his collection of everything Roadster. Thanks for sharing and welcome!

Thank you and I will get some more pics posted soon. I will try and remember to add the VIN to the registry as well.

Stan's the man........
I think you need to cut the frame to clear the oil pump.

What is the best way to contact Stan? Maybe he will be gracious enough to answer my questions.

I've owned two L series powered roadsters. The L18 is a good motor, as it is a bit shorter than the L20B. I was even able to fit an L20B engine into my old 1970 roadster with a stock hood.
As mentioned, you should switch over to side draft carb setup. I'd recommend a dual SU set-up which you can find from the Datsun 510 guys.

I thought i would update my post with some changes. I have officially driven my roadster at 60mph and everything felt good. Slowly replacing parts. Im keeping the l18 because every part i have purchased has been dirt cheap. Still want to get a stock hood on it but cant afford a side draft carb to make that happen. The PO had blacked out and lot and had funky bumpers. So i got some stock on it and put chrome pieces back on. Freshened up the interior. Next is to organize the wiring and clean up the engine.
