Yep, I've seen them assembled "trim ring below" with just the "non-accordion" rubber boot.

I dissected a 1/2 year original assembly that had the vinyl boot and rubber boot glued to the underside without the ring.

Also saw a photo of the ring on top retaining the decorative boot and a rubber boot (presumably) below.

It was certainly "not a refined process" from Nissan for 67.5.

The good news is all those approaches work, the ring is just a better approach than glue only.

So if you want to keep the pretty stainless ring on top do you wrap the vinyl boot around the edge of the lower rubber boot, place the ring on top and then use four screws to hold the entire assembly in place?

Thank you all for the feedback!

KevinD received a painted prototype, the intro offer pieces for 135 are bare, ready-to-paint or powder coat. At this point painting in 67.5 two/tone texture paint adds 35$.

Here are a couple photos with a 1/2 year rubber only boot installed from below. SOOOO easy, bolt it up and then run around the ring inner perimeter with super glue bonding the boot to the ring. Suggest a drop of blue loctite on the nuts. Done.

I'll post some photos with the ring on top with a leather boot soon. I'm really pleased with the way these turned out! I think you will love them!

Looks really beautiful. I just got done refabing my original, but I'm finding that the rubber ring is too thick on the bottom and will not allow the plate to go forward enough to meet the consol or the mounting bolt holes. Just an FYI in case you want or need to take a look at yours. They sure are beautiful.

Has anyone found period photos showing the ring on top?

Are we sure the ring was a stock part. I have never seen a 67.5/2000 shift plate with holes for rings.

Yes. Rallye had some. My car was delivered with it. I have had a few 67.5 1600s with them as well. Of all the cars I have had, only one had the retainer (what folks are calling a trim piece).

I have a few of the trim rings. They did come that way because one of the available rubber boots had the holes in it for the ring hardware to fit through.

Ross I have a new boot with the holes. Just have never seen the plate with holes. And you know how many plates I have.
