Hi,

Took off the visor brackets (receiver) and notice that there is a set screw that penetrates into the slot where the visor arm fits (the arm is a cylinder but has a flat spot along one edge). Is this an adjustment to keep the visor in the up position? Can someone validate this?

No, it is to keep the arm from turning. The internal brackets in the visor stop it from turning.

I believe it is to create resistance in the up position to prevent the visor from flopping down. I have one without a set screw in the visor collet and its floppy.

Hmm... definitely one of these two answers. I have everything apart soon and will replace the visor. Will let folks know what I find.

I do think you'll find the set screw is for holding tension as indicated above.

Just put in a new set of visors. The set screw in the bracket is to hold the arm in position. The drag on the visor is adjusted via a screw in the visor itself. Of course if you purchased replacement visors (like I did), there is no screw in the visor and you have to squeeze the edge of the visor with a vice grip to increase (it is one way only...) tension so it will not flip down when you are driving.

Sorry! Yes that is what you said. In one reply, there was some confusion between the screw on the visor and the set screw in the bracket. Should have just referred them to your post!
