My newly aquired 67 520 truck
Here are some pics of me picking up another project Datsun. It is a second owner 67 520 truck with the numbers matching motor. The first thing I plan on doing it getting rid of the work rack and took box! I plan on painting it the stock blue and redoing the interior while making it run like a top! I plan on taking no more then 6 months to get it finished. Consider this it's build thread!!

Re: My newly aquired 67 520 truck
Cool little ride Brian, and I like that Datsun meatball on the F150 too!
These are great little trucks, just can't buy the utility and high mpg anymore, everything has got so big. (and I have a 4-dr tacoma, last generation) My experience is with the L-series (521) powered version, from many moon ago.
The folks on "Ratsun" will be a good resource for selling off the un-needed items.
Keep us posted.

A decent ladder rack and tool box to boot!
Just a thought ; you might add a head rest cushion to the back window. if you were to get hit hard from behind the glass hits hard on the back of your head ,some older folks have been killed.
I had a 720 and was bumped .

Re: My newly aquired 67 520 truck
I drilled out the pop rivets that were holding them on tonight and removed them along with the huge race tires. The quarters are rust free and I will only have to weld up a couple holes from the rivets! I also removed the tool box and found that there is a huge custom gas tank underneath. Apparently the guy used it as a work truck and must have fueled up tools and such with it. I also unbolted the ladder rack. I need a second set of hands to remove the tank and rack. I am amazed at how original the rest of the truck it and damage and rust free! There is next to no body work to be done and I haven't found any putty in it.theunz wrote:Those are quite the flaresMike.

Re: My newly aquired 67 520 truck
I just got it running today but it just revs up to the point I have to shut her down or it might blow the engine. I checked the throttle and choke linkage and neither are stuck. It must be something internally. Its time to call Keith Williams! Here are some pics of the engine, which I have learned is not the original but a later and faster L18 version. I also took pictures of the interior and the stock wheels and hubcaps I plan on restoring for it.

Re: My newly aquired 67 520 truck
Those are the longest intake runners I have ever seen. Never seent he carb so far over onto the inner fender. Hope L series engine mounts are a lot more rigid than roadster mounts (how could they possibly be softer?!)
In fact all the L series I have seen don't have them at all, but maybe someone did that in order to bridge a manifold vs head mismatch.
its gotta add at least 10 Hp. (yuk, yuk)
nice little ride.

That is a great ride - that would be another Datsun I'd own given the space.

Re: My newly aquired 67 520 truck
I will be pulling the runners this weekend. It appears they used them to help with the botched carb linkage they put on. Keith Williams was over today and we got it running then proceeded to take the carb off so he can rebuild it right and correct the linkage. I took the gas tank out today and removed the radiator and water pump. The radiator just needs cleaned but the water pump was leaking so it will be replaced. I also finished painting the stock wheels. It is amazing how much cheaper parts are for this truck compared to our Roadsters. I will post some more pictures of the work tomorrow.FergO2k wrote:Those are the longest intake runners I have ever seen. Never seent he carb so far over onto the inner fender. I learned everything mechanical on my '73 Datsun 620 PU. I still look for it on Craigslist.
