2013 SoCalTT Backroads "rally (aka: tour), Oct 13/14

Post by FergO2k »

Yes, Sunday and Monday is correct. (miss the weekend coming home traffic, and overnite stays heavily discounted)
The dates have been announced, more info to follow, but if you scroll back in the Events page, this year will be much like all previous.
Which is why it is an absolute MUST for me, so feel free to join in.

Pre '75 is the "guideline", if you have entered and break down at the last minute, run what ya got, join in the fun, you'll get slung a few barbs as a "cheater", but we've all had to do it from time to time.
Copious gearhead chat, great food, wonderful roads.

this website is pretty outdated, but when the cars are 37+ years old, whats a few years of old pics matter.

http://www.socaltt.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Oh, and one of the "group" is selling a MGC roadster, not pretty but a driver, in case you have a last minute yearning for a arrive-buy-drive!

PM me for more info, I'll be making a mailing list for when apps come out.

Me for sure, Peter H and almost sure. Would love to have others join in the fun.
Great group of folks, great gearhead talk, and always great food at the overnite in Los Alamos.

And next year the Snowball Rally too? (must start installing heater bits now)

I would like to do it too. Sounds like fun. I need to get my car more road worthy... I'm working out the bugs now.

so let's have a OC roadster get-together, and visit and get your car together.
back in the day, we called it an "intervention", but what it amounted to was get it over the hump, cause once they are regularly on the road, the maintenance is much less. they are begging to be driven on a regular basis.
Anyway, pick a day. Have tool bags (but not necessarily any talent with them) will travel.

Apps have been sent out, PM me with an email address and I'll send them to you.

Me? Prepping car, just putting some miles on her, making sure gearbox is full, diff is full, brakes are bled, etc, to make sure no surprises.

The ones with what I call "Peters group", i.e.: the Drive to the Cetner of the Earth, the Drive that must not be named, etc
are free, cause you book your own accomodations. The Iron Bottom was free as well, cause they just handed out maps and you were on your own for where to stay.
this one the motel is booked for you, and the evening dinner catered, as well as the return "awards dinner".

vintagerallyecartel group on yahoogroups is how I hear of them. (it is kinda NorCal oriented, but all get posted there)

socaltt also has its own yahoogroup.
The ones that cost a bit more, and are more exclusive (Mille, Melle, etc) get mentioned but have more formal website, registration, etc.

I am thiking SnowBall Rally next year, although the Motherlode 400 is the Ca Gold Country, which is gorgeous and small towns, and great roads, and not SO far from SoCal.

I was thinking of trying a smaller event perhaps to see if I liked it.

Linda,
just come along for the first 2/3 of Day 1. We welcome all those that have pressing schedules, and are "in the spirit of the event".
We don't even make you wear a silly hat! (leave that to me!)

So that means Glendale/Angeles Crest/Palmdale then east thru to Frazier Park (this is a GREAT Stretch, Pine Mntn is one of Victor's favorites). usually lunch in Frazier Park, then inland over Cerro Noreste to 166. When we go west you could go back thru Cerro Noreste (also a superb road) or go with and turn left on 133 and go back into Ojai. Figure you'll get to Ojai about 2pm.
Hell of a day, and end up on the coast. Do the second 1/2 of Day 1 roads on the next Solvang trip.
