3 Main re-build options

Does anyone have information on an engine re-build kit for the early 3 main R-16 engines? I am looking for economical options for bearings, rings, pistons, valves, etc. for a standard re-build.
I know that the H20 forklift parts are available, but am ignorant as to their application to the 3 main engines.
Any help would be appreciated as I have 3 R16 3 main engines (maybe 4...I haven't looked at my sister's summer acquisition!) plus a U-20 to maintain!!! One must be frugal to keep all of these rolling :!:
Feel free to e-mail me at htcren@bellsouth.net if you feel that this should be discussed outside this forum.

3 main parts

I can highly recommend Motor Power Inc. in Kentucky. Virtually all of their parts are in my 2 liter stroker motor. Pistons, rings, main and rod bearings, freeze plugs, valve stem seals, timing cover seal, rear main seal, timing gears, chain and tensioner. The parts are cheap, excellent quality, readily available, and the people there are darned nice to deal with too.

Just go to the General Stroker Writeup on this site by Steve Allen, scroll down to their highlighted site name, click on it and away you go.

The main bearings for the 3-main are difficult to find, and expensive. Those of us who race the 3-main engine buy every set of bearings we can get our hands on, and normally pay anywhere from $80-$100 for a set of main bearings.

Chris would know for sure. I just thought that Datsun would have just added 2 more mains to the 3 to make 5 and keep everything else the same.....I dug out my book and it calls out 59.952mm for the 3 main and 62.965mm for the 5 main. So as Chris pointed out, they are evidently NOT the same bearings.....bummer.

The G engine bearings might be the same as they are listed as 59.945-59.952
Don't know anything about the width thou.
That's something that Sid might have the info on.

Sid...any comments ??

If they are the same, they should be listed as an interchange, to give someone a chance to obtain a set from a vendor, dealer, E-bay, or other source.

Well, here is Sid's comment as requested!

I have not researched the bearings with regards to the 1500 and 1600 (3 main), so I cannot speak difinitively on it, but I BELIEVE that they are the same. I know that the 5 main stuff is different. As I recall, Nissan changed which bearing has the thrust bearing on it, so that kind of nixes the idea of just buying a set of 5 and throwing 2 away. Of course, I could be out to lunch on that. When I get my stuff back from the crank scraper guy, I will try to figure it all out.

Now, that having been said, here is Sid's Secret Nugget of Knowledge for the day. The dealer and the vendors are not the only source for parts in the world. Go to the industrial part of town and find the oldest engine parts house still in existence. Go talk to the crusty guy (expect foul odors and frequent profanity) that has been there since the dirt on the walls was fresh and explain your needs. Don't be pushy or bossy, but rather, come with your hat in your hand and ask for help. I did that and got some cool stuff cheap. Like both chains for a 2000 for about $30 total...
