original arm rest finish

Post by markjhatch »

Getting around to restoring my center console. Bought the plastic to glue over it and was surprised to see in the package a plastic covering for the arm rest too.

I was surprised because my arm rest has a vinyl cloth cover. But a critical look on the under side of the arm rest, it looks like the PO added this.

Was the original arm rest the same hard plastic as the center console, dash, etc. or was it cloth? What does the underside look like? Given the mods, trying to figure out whether I try to undo the PO's work or just get a junk one that is closer to what it should be...

While we are at it, any suggestions on how to restore the metal trim on the console (ash tray cover, metal strip around the map light and lock, etc.)?

Thanks!

As I recall, the lid was vinyl covered. The plastic cover will make it look more uniform if htat is what you want.

I have painted mine in the past, but it will be sent out for powder coating here shortly. I will post pics before and after. Mine is an early car but the resto should be the same.
