Over charging

What can cause a over charging condition? To the effect that water out of the battery is being forced out of the caps?

A bad voltage regulator can cause that problem.

is that the external box on the inside fender with 3 or 4 wires by the batt or is it internal of the alt.

Unless there's been the ever-popular GM alternator conversion, the voltage regulator is external and in the location you mentioned.

Had this happen last week. Out for a quick run and noticed the amp gauge was almost at 30a. Got home and the battery was sizzling. Checked the connections at the alternator and on one of the plastic plugs (goes to the harness under the master cyl) was badly corroded. It is a three prong (I think) male/female connector. Used a cleaner (CRC contact cleaner) , cleaned the other connections and the grounds. Cranked it back up a revved the engine. The meter behaved normally, slight movement to +. Easy to check it out. Hello Alexi,

Did you fix your problem? I also had this problem recently. Purchased a voltage regulator from AUTOZONE, Manufaturer WELLS, part # VR728. $21.99 plus tax.

Installed today and amps went from +30 at high revs to 0 (middle of guage) through all RPMs. Plug matches and was a simple bolt in.

Ron,

I had bought the same one installed it then parked the car. I am currently working on another roadster for a friend and I won't get back to my car till next month. I hope if fixes it , it was cheap and easy.
