Hi Don here

I have a 70 spl311 that has been sitting for 8 years now, think I will get it going this year to drive or sell.
I was a Datsun/Nissan tech from 77-87 and always wanted a roadster ,in late 93 I saw many for sale in the paper . most were more bondo than steel, I wanted a 2L 5sp for sure .But I found one roadster a 1600 that was straight panels with just a few patches of rust although rusted thru. he wanted $1750 firm I passed 6 months later A 19 yr old kid had it ,he had bought for $1200, go figure. He had also beaten every panel with a bat?
I was going to weld the pulling nail to the fender and slide hammer them out ,i found that a quick weld and the dents popped out from the expanding heat- 75% anyway.
I got for $950 and was going to restore it in late April I could see it would be november before I was driving it ,so I just wrapped it up and painted it and recovered the seats
The 311 lost out to a 86 300ZXT that sits next to it now
My experience with working on roadsters at the dealership was kind of minor a lot of starters in the spring ,brakes, clutch cly, valve adjusts, tire work .elect.
I think I got more of them than the other techs because I worked next to the service writers and the other guys could hide quicker.

Another note; I drove a 72 510 2door- ( which seemed rare around here ) from 78-83 lowered with a header and took the secondary check ball out of the mikuni carb it was a purplish blue with datsun factory torque thrust wheels with that carb and lite weight it kept up with a lot of v8 couples in 1st & 2nd gear. With 30 mpg I explored every part of KC.
I had 3 or 4 guys at the dealership pestering me to sell it to them i sold it to one of them buying a 80 510 stick from a coworker .The 72 got run over by a 3ton moving truck, weeks later . So low the driver did not see it . Alan the guy I sold it to was trapped in it (foot caught ) crying ( his brother said ) he was ok ,crying because his 510 was done.

Posting pics here is pretty easy. Once you hit reply, you can type in your message, and when you are ready to add a picture, simply scroll down below the "submit button"
There is a field box there with "Browse" beside it. Click "browse", then find the file on your PC and enter or double click, then make sure to hit the "add the file" button and you should be done. Repeat as necessary. Remember to "submit" the whole post, to get it online.
Repeat as necessary. You may be limited to 3 or so pictures per post, but just keep posting until you get them all up.
You can also paste a link to your file if you have it on Flicker or some other sharing site.

I raised the rear end with extra springs to fit the tires in

I Just thought I would mention it .
When I first started looking for a roadster I wanted a SRL, some what rare around here or people are not selling, the only one I found was in Riverside Mo. I agreed to meet this guy selling it ,although he didn't want me to come to his home, so we met him in a lot in Riverside . I took my service manager that worked with me back in the days ,as he knew them better than I. The guy showed up and it was rough ,especially on rear quarters ,to much putty ,he took me on a white knuckel ride so it ran good, but not alot of brakes ,as I drove it too. I think he wanted $2200 or more this was 93-94 . I told him I wanted to look some more and headed back to my car,as my manager got out with a big smile and talked to the guy shaking his hand like he knew him . When he came back and got in the car he said "don't you know who that is" -no I don't -it's Handsome Harley Race the wrestler.
I should have bought it, he wrestled in Japan and was big there too.
