Picking it up in the morning!

I'm new to the forum, and to the Datsun world. Me and my dad started looking for a project to work on together, and having ridden in my friends 240z in high school I was interested in acquiring one to work on, but my dad stumbled upon a Craigslist posting for a 69 Datsun 2000 Roadster not too far from us that was running and looked to be in decent shape. I had never really seen any roadsters before and when he sent me the link I loved it. It was unique and I saw tons of potential to make it the sweet ride that I really have always wanted. So we made the trip to look at it. The guy was asking a bit more than we wanted to pay, and upon inspection of the car it was clear that it was going to take a bit of work to get it to where it was reliable, so we left, and I had all but given up on the idea sadly. BUT my dad made the guy an offer and after about an hour on the phone talking cars and different things he worked the guy down to a reasonable price, and we are picking it up tomorrow! I can't wait to get started and I'm sure I will have plenty of questions and lots of pictures to share.

There are quite a few Z's out there, but the roadster is relatively rare, and well worth preserving.

Keep us posted on your progress. There are a lot of good people on this site who know the technical side, how to find parts and are good wrenches too.

Got it home and drove it around. It runs great and is a blast to drive. I'm still smiling can't wait to have some time to really get into it.

Ok, time for me to be the buzzkill. I am truly happy for you and that is a great looking roadster! What you DON'T need to do is disassemble it. Fix anything that makes it unsafe, tune it, and drive it. Don't succumb to the urge to yank it off of the frame and restore it. Drive it and enjoy it. Don't start cutting on it right away to put in a big thumping stereo. Don't yank the drive train for a rebuild or engine swap. Don't do any of that - just drive it. Drive it and start a list of ideas for the car - ideas of what you want to fix or change. Update it for a month or so, then put the list away until next winter. Drive and enjoy the car. Try to find other Roadsters to drive with. Find nice country roads to enjoy. Enjoy the car. Do maintenance on the car and fix things that fail. When next winter approaches, get out the list. What you will find is that most of the initial ideas will have changed, and if you had started them, you would have lost motivation or so drastically changed direction that a LOT of time and money would be spent for naught. At that point, consider what you want to do and make plans. Until then, just enjoy the car for what it is!

What Sid said. That car looks like a great driver and will give you hours of pleasure as is. I would get it running and driving safely and enjoy the summer. Just get the brakes working well and get the car tuned up and running well.

Then next winter you can get the seats re-upholstered

I see my dad agrees judging from the smiles. This is what I plan to do, the only things I want to do to it right now are little things I can get done in a weekend or evening. I have no plans to do a full frame off restomod right away can't afford that anyway. Just want to make it safe to drive then start improving it little by little. Thanks for the advice tho.

Got to be honest though love the look and sound of those SR20DET's... A guy can dream can't he :p
