picked up a set of new 15" wire wheels with knockoffs and splined adapter hubs and new tires mounted with a TR4 a while back. sold the car without the wire wheels, thinking about either putting them on one of my roadsters or selling them. 4x4.5, +12mm offset...seems if I get the proper type of nuts and shorten the studs down I should be able to bolt them right up on the roadster. anyone know for sure? seems to me I saw a photo somewhere of a wire wheel roadster once upon a time

26 yrs ago my car came with appliance tru-spoke wire wheels. As I recall they required some kind of funky lug nut adaptors. I never ran them as I was told they needed to be trued by adjusting the spokes themselves.

Here's the wire wheels that my roadster came with, I am no longer running them. If I recall correctly, the nuts for the hub adaptor were just regular flat nuts. Also I didn't change out the studs when I put new wheels on, so not sure if they were cut (don't think they were).

I have a love-hate relationship with wire wheels. I absolutely love the way that they look. I hate that they CONTINUALLY have some kind of issue. You really need to run tubes in them too - even the "guaranteed tubeless" ones will eventually leak and require tubes. Been there, done that on an XJ6.

As I recall, traditional wire wheels have a single central threaded tube or oversized lug. The wheel has a hole in the center that fits right over and the single spinner is like a big wing nut and is secured with a mallet blow on the wing. When I looked at them, you could buy a "tube" that bolted on you wheel with your lug nuts so you could use the traditional or get wire wheels that were made for a four lug wheel.

I know i'm reviving an old thread, but I really like the look of wire spoke wheels on these early roadsters. Does anyone currently have a set mounted on their car? If so, any leads on where I could source a set for my 66? Thank you.

I don't have them on my car, but I did consider getting wire wheels. IIRC, the MGB set-up works, so I would look for those if you want used. Moss Motors should have new.

Thank you for the response. Any particular MG i should be searching for the correct wheel size?

I'd want to see them spinning on a nortron type spin balancer to verify they are straight & smooth
