Thanks. I’m trying to take my time but the closer I get to being finished the more anxious I get and the more I have to remind myself that I’m on a budget.

Today I swapped my late Solex air filter for my old K&N’s that I haven’t used since the early eighty’s. That wonderful Solex sound is back. I missed it!

i moved to a new project today. Removed the header and manifold. Car has been sitting about 4 years. Found this stuff. I had noticed some yellowish crude on the outside a few years ago where the headers bolted on but didn’t expect this inside. Is this the two different metals reacting together?

It is aluminum oxide from the intake manifold deteriorating. Notice it is in the intakes and not the exhaust. It should not be a problem.

Every piece of aluminum new or old has Aluminum oxide on it , that's deep corrosion , and likely electrolysis
blast it some way and test & clean the head see if the pistons are the same , my bet is they are

Would distilled water make a difference ?/ There a "waterless coolant" the I saw on "Edd China's" web site and Jay Leno had the maker in his garage talking about the stuff. It doesn't build up pressure and doesn't foul you block. but it ain't cheap.

In a regularly driven car is this problem avoided just because of heat from use?

This is from electrolis / corrosion
Have you welded aluminum ?
in 30 seconds it's oxided up ,if it didn't you'd never use it as a auto cyl head , or it would be 3tmes the size

Replaced the old KYB shocks with new Bilstiens today, the rears went in real easy. Gotta do the fronts next, that will be a bit more challenging…
