My guess is a bit of preload.

Its the only way to differentiate the pads from the left hand set from the right hand set.
Pads are mirrored about each rotor.
(e.g.)
41060-65002 ASSY-BRAKE PAD (M33) RH/LH

Bumps might be biasing the pad during braking application to prevent binding, chattering/squeal, or to ensure initial pad contact area is on trailing side of rotation at rotor outer edge....?
Somewhere hidden in the Dunlop brake archives is the answer for this design feature .

(I'm holding out that the pad arrow might be indicating the way you turn the steering wheel to get access to the caliper for respective pad. )

Ray,

I believe your reasoning is correct. I've seen this trailing edge bias of new brake pads on the emergency braking systems on large rotating equipment. It increases breaking efficiency and extends pad life.

Adjusted my trunk latch. On my latest trip home from Grand Forks to Kelowna it kept popping open. Stayed closed all day today running around town.

Pitted pretty badly, mostly on bottom though....Will have powder coated next. Will see how they turn out. Original 1968 bumpers and over riders. Still want to use them if I can.

Powder coating will not fill the pits. Every dull rough spot will just come back as a shiny rough spot. Have you checked the price differential for rechromeing?

I tried to powder coat my grill. Not good. I'm still going to use it for awhile but spend the money chrome before you waist it on powder coating. Then again prove me wrong please. Even though my powder coat shows all the pits and looks like crap maybe a good powder coat will be better. Good luck

Yep, pits show through pretty ugly. I guess I'll have to do it the right way eventually.

Mike M : The cost for the sandblasting and powder coating on the two bumpers, 4 over riders and 4 mounts was $250. To do it right I'm still not sure how much that will be, haven't been able to get any return calls from the re-chrome guys around here. Last quote I remember seeing anything on the forum was (I think) $750 each bumper. Stainless are $1000? Maybe with Christmas money

At least they won't be leaching rust onto the new paint job and I did get around to straightening them out esp the one in the driver rear that had been run into. Can't drive on NY roads without a bumper, DMV has such crazy rules.
Besides, if you drive real fast no one can see them:)

Anyway, I will be using what I have at least for awhile. I'm making a push to get it on the road by July14th. I have had the car since March 2013. Last year, June 4th 2019 I finally got the mechanicals done enough to pass NYS inspection and drove it 18 miles to the body shop. ONLY time I have driven it except for test drives. Its been there for just over a year. Body was rusted, roached and as one member said the body guy was truly fearless to take on the project. The car was originally a good long time mentor and friend of mine bought right here in Lockport NY. It was the last sports car he bought before getting married. Blew the engine and the car sat for 35 years in an unheated garage in Western New York. So its been my project to get the car ready and surprise him with a ride. His 93rd birthday is July 14th, its looking close that I will be able to drive it to his house and give him a ride. Long time coming. Wish me luck!

Maybe we can get a discount if we both get our bumpers done at the same time. I’ve not had luck finding a chrome shop either (but I haven’t tried that hard, honestly).

I wish I had known last year that you were doing a rebuild. I have front fenders, hood, trunk lid and two unused door skins just sitting here doing nothing right down the road from you.

Got some proper sized tires 195/50/16 and gave up the 205/55/16 as they were rubbing on both ends of the tires when I turn and hit a dip in the road. 16x7 +20 Riken Mesh with datsunparts comps springs and isolators.

We all have a budget and often we have to make sacrifices so as not to blow it. Looks like this is one of those times. Getting it on the road takes precedence over aesthetics. I would make the same choice.
It’s been about five years, but I got both my bumpers straightened and rechromed (less over riders) for $250.00 each. Not triple chrome, but very nice nonetheless.

Wasn't there some posts, pics and discussion about a new chrome paint that was amazingly close to Chrome? Somebody posted something, but I don't have time this very second to search.

Also, the new shoes look great on the red blaster. Fills things very nicely. I run a 205/50 but in a 15, has the same look with the comp springs, no rubbing.

We have used the Chrome powder coat by Prism. Very, very good results, it is a two part system, Chrome and clearcoat. The clearcoat is incredibly durable. But, it takes a skilled PC person to apply it and get good results. It also is like any paint, the prep work is key. Any ding dimple or dent will show through. The end result looks very convincing, but in the end, it is not chrome. On a budget, I would certainly consider it.

Eastwood offers a chrome powdercoat also. Looks good in the catalog but I’ve not seen any in real life.
