Today the Datsun is finally back on her feet! It's been nearly 5 weeks, and during that time I've cleaned and rebuilt the Dellortos, reset the float level (was too low), rewired some of the mega jolt wiring that was SUPPOSED to be shielded when I did it (but wasn't, it was hidden in the instructions. Thanks to 311s member Pat it has its shielded wire now), cleaned all of my grounds, replaced a bad coil pack that was causing some intermittent misfiring and barking on deceleration, replaced the front wheel studs with longer ones, removed and replaced the cam and had it cleaned up at Delta Cam after finding a lobe with some metal fatigue pitting, then broke it in properly, replaced the electric fuel pump, checked the gas tank (looks great) and confirmed fuel pressure is correct for the Dells, re-modified the parking brake so it works (RX7 disc), had the wheels powder coated and polished with the same black and gold design and rebalanced, moved the drivers seat back an inch or so more (that took some effort, but worth it!), and adjusted the jetting on the carbs to keep her richer than the 14.7 I've always targeted for better engine safety...
Whew! It's been a long 5 weeks! Summer is coming, I think the car is ready!

Fought with the overriders and finally got them off the bumpers for my 68. Pounded and tweeked for 3 hours on the the bent up bumpers (esp rear where previous owner had pushed the bumper into the car fender) and finally got them straightened up. Removed light from 68 bumper. Got together the bumper mounts so I can take the whole batch up to the blaster tomorrow. Worked on cleaning up the scratches from putting the doors and hood back on , getting ready for final paint/clear coats. Getting close.......

After 3 years, finally ran power to the barn, now the shop! Working on roadsters with light is a great improvement! No more head worn light. Aka “headlight”.

Best thing I ever bought at Costco.

For many years I’ve tried different air filtration systems and experimented with my own back yard airboxes. JT68's remake of the original with velocity stacks and all was not an option for all those years, and I had cut up my original series one to make an air box (it was a later one which I didn't like). I learned a lot about what you can get in the little space of a 67.5 2000, with the hood rod taking some valuable room. The hardest part is to be able to run velocity stacks. I've run socks for years, but realized that they don't provide full filtration, namely to the jets themselves. It’s very hard to get a full filter around an installed stack, and the only way I could see was to buy shorty stacks (more money for yet another set of stacks), and I really wanted to once again use the Mikuni set I had, which are considerably wider than most others (see pic).
So, ultimately I came up with this, and it works really well with the Dellorto, may not with a Mikuni because the upper filter screw holes are threaded on a Mikuni, and not on a Dellorto. That difference allows me to use a fixed bolt and a nut to attach the filter to the carb. The filters are made by Ramair in England, and it consists of a backing plate and a reinforced filter that uses special push to lock/push to release connectors that attach the filter to the plate. I glued the stacks to the plate with Gorilla glue (thus the expansion) and bolted it to the plate until it set. I also used it to glue the upper bolt in place, and reinstalled the original Dellorto stack studs in the carbs to serve as a lower locating pin. The whole assembled unit then wedges down into place, and the nuts on the two upper bolts secure the filter unit, stacks and all, to the carb. With the cold air tubing still in place, I doubt I'll ever mess with this again. Hey, it only took 34 years... sorry for the upside down pic...

That looks like the most filter area you are going to get with a roadster. Maybe Jim’s beautiful double element repo filter might flow as much, but considerably more expensive. Not to mention yours looks so much better than the hideous ITG filter.

Busy day and about 90 degrees in the garage.

Finally got around to replacing the headrest covers that were worn out from years of removing the tonneau cover.
(Note to self: Be more diligent and move seat before installing tonneau cover ! )

I got the shift pattern label permanently attached to the shift cover plate.
(Briefly thought about removing the radio console to update the AM/FM stereo radio and add a USB port but it will have to be done at a later date. Too hot to be crawling around the interior)

Jacked up the car and greased all the steering and suspension. While I was in the grease mood, I removed the wheels and repacked the wheels bearings.
Of course.. since the wheels were off, I changed out the brake pads that were getting at little thin.
Being forgetfully, I had to refer the to the back of the new oem pads to get them correctly positioned into the inner and outer side of the calipers in relation to the brake rotor rotation.

Made a couple of quick sketches for reference to if I use aftermarket brake pads next time and they do not have the markings.

My Sumitomo Dunlop ones have a double strip on the side with the two bumps.
