I decided its time to get my FJ20E car running again. Went to the store for some ether.
It started on the ether, but had a fuel leak. Fixed the fuel leak and several vacuum leaks and its running on the 5 year old gas.
Tomorrow, I will drain the old fuel and hook up some kind of ignition switch.

Yesterday I re-assembled the front end, did the wheel bearings, and got her down on all 4 tires for the first time in quite a while! She has new tie-rods, ball joints, and idler box shaft etc. Now it is time to do a road test, get her new tires on, get her aligned, then start checking my cam timing and carb jetting! Woo hoo!

I did learn that one has to be careful about how they put the idler box back together. When I first did it, the seal was way off and clearly would not seal. so I thought that the arm simply was not seating down on the shaft like it should. So, me being stupid, I got out the ol impact gun and... welded the damn arm to the shaft soooo freakin bad that we had to heat it up red hot to get it to pound off again. Note to self: Just because you have an impact gun does not mean one should use it! The arm actually only goes down on the shaft so far and less than the total length of the grooves, and one has to preset the shaft such that when you put the arm on the seal is tight but not so tight it hinders movement... lots of trial and error.

Lesson: Put the (impact) gun down Greg, put it down...

Don't forget to pad those chains so you don't mar up your nice new paint and valve cover

Spent the weekend replacing the door weather stripping on both passenger and driver side of the car. That old stuff was nasty... Along with new door bumper stops, the doors close much tighter now.

Removed the dash in my 69 2000 in preparation for installing the new Just Dashes dash. The bolts under the windshield were a pain. The previous owner didn't run a tap through the holes and they were all REALLY tight and two were 10mm vs. 7/16". I didn't want to remove the windshield to do this.

I have more pride in this than I probably should... BUT in the last 2-ish weeks I replaced my head gasket, desmogged (mostly, couple holes I'm still working on plugging) and changed over to an EI dizzy from East Coast Roasters (which is beautiful, recommend 100%). Now I'm hoping to get it all tuned up to go on a run with local guys Pat and Bob(maybe?), along with the legendary Turbo Ted(s) a week from friday.

Another shameless plug for Jim’s (JT68) craftsmanship. He recently announced that he’s reproducing the Fuel T that came with the Solex package, and I presume that were standard on 67.5 2000 cars regardless of carburetors. He’s selling them in 6.5mm for SU cars and 8mm for Solex cars, which should be running a slightly bigger fuel line. I’ve been trying to get by using a SU “T” for my Solex setup for some time now, which has never worked very well with the bigger hose, and made me obsessive about checking for fuel leaks there when starting after extended periods of non-activity. Anyway, bolted the new one on today. Looks great, accepted the hose perfectly, and of course no leaks. Thanks Jim!
