When I removed the seats, there were large washers already in place. I like the idea of adding a an additional piece of sheet metal, but it would also limit any lift on the seat rails. I'll need to reassemble and see how much "extra" stud I have available ... my guess is not much.

Being old, lazy, and sporting a bum shoulder I decided to build something to make polishing the lips of my wheels easier, so this is what I came up with.

It works really well. About 30 seconds each with some 600-2000 grit sandpaper followed by a couple of minutes of aluminum polish on a rag and you’re done. I had to adapt a really tiny pulley to the motor to slow the wheel down enough that it didn’t get your fingers hot, but I feel like I hit on an ideal speed. Since I had the old broken compressor and the steel along with the hardware on hand, my total outlay was only about $30. It did however take a lot of time to build, but most of that was just a lot of thinking which hurts my brain😎

Well I guess I I’m more inept at this internet stuff than I thought. Sorry for that, here’s a still picture, the link was the completed project with the modified pulley in action.

And here I thought I would put the car on jack stands and just run the car in gear.

I guess you want to be careful with your fingers on a spoked wheel.

Curtis, you are right about just letting the car do the work. The only money you would need to spend is the hospital bill for carbon monoxide poisoning. I’ve never been comfortable with the wheels turning while on jack stands, but my real reason for doing this is I just like to piddle in the garage. The fact that I can polish them in the comfort of my garage with no concern about the weather is a positive too. Well, except for the extreme heat and humidity we get here😱
As for your fingers, the spokes on my wheels have enough curvature that if you bump them near the rim you barely feel it. Wouldn’t want to accidentally stick my hand towards the middle of the spokes though! I practice not loosing my fingers by not sticking them in the fan blades of the antique fan on my work bench. As an aside I have been known to run with scissors😎

Warm weather, fan to blow exhaust away and one of those rubber tubes you put on the exhaust pipe. Or if you have nothing better to do with your excess money give it to a wheel restoring place.

Since my AR libre wheels are just sitting stacked I won't be trying your clever method or mine. I think maybe I would put a cover over the spokes.

Curtis just send me your Libre’s and I’ll polish them for you and send them back after a long term test for durability. No charge!😎 As for giving my money to a wheel restorer I have a real adversion to paying someone to do something I can do myself. Usually if I do I seem to end up fixing what they screwed up!
