Got the heat-shield fabricated and installed. It turned out pretty good if you ask me. Still waiting on my new fuel filter so I can fire her up. Doing a few other cleanup issues as I wait. Some of the glue I used on the interior is no longer doing its thing so I am tending to that. I need to glue the weatherstrip on for my soft top as well. Here are a couple of pics of the heat-shield and one more of the Mikuni's from a frontal view.

That heat shield is a nice sturdy looking piece, well done!

Re: What did you do TO or FOR your Datsun today?(Roadsters only)
Yesterday we were getting a Northeaster, so I postponed mother's day until next weekend, dumped the 10wt from my dashpots (way too thin) and filled them back up with 20wt. While I had the domes off, I adjusted the cable pull on the rear choke, lubed up the linkages, and cleaned everything up with carb cleaner. Pulled spark plugs and decided to richen both carbs 1/4 turn. Also found that the throttle pedal stop under the carpet was preventing the carbs from fully opening, so I removed the bolt, removed the lock nut, and reinstalled the bolt so that it sits lower.
Rainy days lead to a lot of tinkering.

Added some gear oil to the steering box and tightened the bottom nut until the replacement part, a slotted hex nut comes in. Steering does seem to improve with added gear oil, so good idea to check. Would not hurt to check the bottom nut either, mine was loose.

Re: What did you do TO or FOR your Datsun today?(Roadsters only)
I dumped all my fluids (except diff) and disconnected mucho stuff in prep for engine pull. First time a car in the air in new garage. WYAII to follow: tranny swap, fan spacer, alternator stainless tube below carbs (JT part very pretty), radio, clock, wire lighter, carb float gasket, wide band bung placement, header refinish, carpet and fix a door screw to follow. Anything else?
Clutch, pp, throw, different mount on carb side, new pan gasket seals for speedo and tach, try again to get my VDO oil pressure gauge to work, new old stock motor mounts, stainless hose for slave. Check my cam nut for tightness. Sigh ... long hot summer.
Take photos of leftover bolts.
Kudos to Steve for improving the experience on loading all my worthless photos!

Ran into a nice gentleman, and former Roadster racer at Canepa this past weekend. Our conservation turned to the fact that he has a small stockpile of parts, which included the oil pan below that I was happy to purchase from him at a fair price. I've stubbornly resisted "the pan" part of the competition package for a few years now, but figured my Roadster spiritual guide was leading me to get it. What's a guy supposed to do? It is damage free, inside and out, and appears to have been lightly used during its life. Score!
BTW, he has a NOS 1600 crankshaft in the box. I couldn't tell him how much it was worth. Any guesses here? The rest of his stash was pretty non-rare.You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Mine is a little lighter due to pieces of aluminum inadvertently shaved of over its 26 K mile life.bakerjf wrote:Ran into a nice gentleman, and former Roadster racer at Canepa this past weekend. Is it an 8 qt pan like the one on Garm's 1600?
1600 new crank? Maybe it's the one which came out of my new short block ...
I think I got 50 bucks for it back in 73 or so.

Re: What did you do TO or FOR your Datsun today?(Roadsters only)
After profuse use of 4 letter words, I managed to get the upper bolt off my header/exhaust. Making the engine ready for pull except the
drive shaft bolts, the shift lever and the tranny mount.
Thinking of replacing (at least the top bolt) with an allen head so I can hold it in place while I turn the nut.
No room with the header and transmission plate to get a wrench on a standard bolt.
Plenty of anti seize will be used.

Pulled the axels, driver side leaking. Came off nicely but I buggered the brake connection to the wheel. Guess I be making a brake line. I mean I used a flare nut wrench.
Well anyways the axels are at the machinist to cut the collars. I am gonnna hone the rear cylinders. And clean the rear end, the oil looked wet

Finished getting rid of the hidden rust. 3 layers had to be done. Can't guess why it was only on the left frame member.
