Polished and installed set screws on my new center caps.
After losing one last year and not being able to find one I took the opportunity when a machine shop called me in for backlog to run 4 new ones on the cnc.
Bonus is they are now aluminum instead of plastic, the set screw will insure I don't lose another one. Center counterbore will have a Datsun logo insert.

Thanks
Pearl was ready for the crusher so I didn't mind not doing a "restoration" on her.

I like it. Gas tank in the trunk? Louvers are a different approach. Nice work!

Nice, It is good to find one that doesn't need a lot of new sheet metal.

I put the three 2000 emblems I was lucky to find on Ebay on the 1600 today. I used a black Sharpie to dress them back up and they look great.

Finally got the center console installed and connected.
The knobs still need some rehab but I wanted to get it done.
The wrinkle paint is holding up well so far so we shall see how it does long term.
One day I’ll get the console recovered but now I need to get back to driving, so this was a “while I am there” mini refurb.

Yesterday I removed and replaced the 8 front wheel studs with the Dorman 610-259, available at my local chain parts store. I was only getting about 1/2" of bite on the lug nuts before, should be near double that now. They were easy to do... removed the brake calipers, removed the rotor and hub assembly, removed the 4 bolts holding the rotor on (air impact made it easy), then used a long lug nut threaded onto the lug to hammer out the old stud (they came out easily). Fitted in the new studs, hammered them a bit to get them set, then used the same long lug nut with a flat washer at the base of the stud to protect the hub assembly, set the impact to a light setting and used it to fully seat the stud. Probably not as kind or proper as using a press, but I don't have one, and as far as I can tell it worked great. On the light setting it pulled the stud fully into the hole without turning it. I hope to get my wheels back from being straightened this week or next. Long story short, it was easy and I'm glad I did it.

Read a post on hear about a guy who reclocked his speedometer gear carrier counter clockwise with a larger higher tooth count gear on it and then recut the groove in the carrier with a file for the locking tab and it worked! for 10,000 miles he said. So yesterday I put the roadster up on my lift and I put in my red 20 tooth gear, recut the locking tab groove 180 degrees and reclocked and it did not work. I studied the original carrier and the blue 18 tooth gear and thought I had it figured for gear tooth protrusion, etc. but I have had it in and out several times and it did work for just a few seconds, then quit. I nervously pulled the gear carrier thinking all the teeth would be chewed up but no, they are fine...?? So this afternoon I tried again. I chucked the carrier up in my lathe and cut the locking tab groove all the way around, reinstalled and tried reclocking even more counterclockwise to about 10 to 11 and still nothing. So tomorrow I will go the other way and see if that works. One thing I should note is that with the trans in neutral I can rotate the driveshaft and see the speedo sleeve where the cable goes in rotating so I know the gear teeth are meshing. I will post more tomorrow on my progress.....
