Nice Jon. Are the shoulder belts attached to a roll bar?jhayden wrote: ↑Sun Dec 13, 2020 11:01 am TO the Datsun FOR the Safety of her Passengers:
Just replaced the 3†latch type aircraft lap belts in the stock SRL with these four-point camlocks. Although the lap belts weren’t frayed, their age (three decades plus) had stiffened them and also made adjustment difficult.
Although my preference is the visual assurance provided by the latch type, the quick release of the camlocks should be a big plus if an emergency exit from the vehicle becomes necessary.
Hopefully no 311s member is still relying on the original belts that came with the car , but replacing aged belts would make a nice Christmas present for both driver and passenger.

I made a couple of door lock pulls out of some blue & white hard rubber that I had.

That looks like someone had been working their welder pretty much the same as they worked their brake and clutch.

I polished my thought-to-be-hopeless hubcaps!
Not perfect by any means, but a huuuuge improvement.

Re: What did you do TO or FOR your Datsun today?(Roadsters only)
Speaking of polishing....I did these today to use on my hardtop that I’m thinking about using to transport my car to Solvang. Think I’d feel better at the motels with the hardtop than my soft top. They came off a rusted parts car and the before picture is after they were bead blasted.
This example and iloveredmeat’s post show how parts that seem like junk can be salvaged with a little elbow grease.

Nice polish job! They must have been quite rusty.

They were! Polishing bight be over simplifying it. I first ground them with a 2†angle grinder, then hit them with a belt sander followed by hand sanding before finishing up on the buffer. Probably had 45 minutes or so on each one.

Wow Mike, that's awesome!
What were your "grit steps" to get that so nice?
It really shows us that a lot of parts may be worth trying to salvage...
Power Tools, Mother's Chrome Polish, Good Ol' Elbow Grease, and a couple glasses of wine can work wonders!

Re: What did you do TO or FOR your Datsun today?(Roadsters only)
I started with 36 on the angle grinder, then I’m not sure what was on the belt sander because I couldn’t read it, but my guess is about 60 or 80. The hand sanding was 180-220-320-400. Then I finished on the buffing wheel with some red rouge. Some 120 would of been nice, but I didn’t have any, so there is some slight scratches visible from the belt sanding.
My free labor and cheap bench grinder has saved me hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars during my restoration. Plus it gives me great pleasure to see old neglected parts brought back to life. Oh, and also I’m CHEAP!
On edit...meant to say bench buffer, there is a slight difference. Mainly that the shafts are longer and better access to the pads.

I also bought an inexpensive bench grinder – and it has made my life significantly better! Worth every penny as I restored my seat rails...
