I'm not a fan of the screw on fenders on a street car. Race car maybe, off road vehicle, sure. That being said, that is a very nice looking Z

You mean mall crawlers. Real off road vehicles don't give a damn about fenders.

No, I mean off road vehicles that still need to keep the windshield clear - like a jeep used for hunting.

I would love to screw some threes on Goldie, over the 15 X eights!

Yes! There is an E85 L28ET at the shop now. I'll do a post on it soon:

Very nice! My 71' looked very much like that one. The Volks wheels look great with that color.

Here is how I built my engine bay back in the early 90s' in my 73'. Its getting my RB26dett now.

I've got 3 projects going on all at once to keep things interesting

GM alternator
early steering box rebuild
Fuel tank restoration

Last night I made some spacers and bolted the alternator up. I first tried a 15380 belt. Too short. I then tried a 15400 belt. Way too long. So tonight I'll go back to the parts store and see if they have any 15385's.

I understand why people like to put the GM alternator on because of the cost, power delivery and ease but they are so ugly. If one fails you can get them anywhere. Certainly can't do that with an overpriced roadster one. I almost put a GM one on but just couldn't do it because it looks so out of place but then so does an engine swap and I wouldn't mind having a car with one of those just for the power and reliability. I sold my GM and put on the Nissan IR one. I suppose I could get stuck since it is an older model from the 70's and 80's. From what people say you'll certainly be happy with what it gives you.

Since I have the early car without a water pump spacer the modification to the alternator bracket allows me to use any number of alternators with the 80mm spacing between the mounting ears. If I want to use an early 510 with the external VR I can even do that and it looks stock with 35 or 50 amps.

Here it is with the 510 alternator mocked up on it.

This is the later Nissan alternator.

That later alternator is pretty big too! I agree, it's huge and ugly, but, I need the extra juice. What do you figure I should run for a wire gauge to the battery? The ground wire that I have is probably about 4 or 6 gauge. I'm thinking about just running 6 to the battery as well.

Side by side its not much bigger. The 510 is actually a little shorter. My alternator is 50 amps since I was too cheap to pay the extra for the 60 amp one. I run a 10 gauge wire directly to the battery. In terms of wiring probably not the best way to do it but I have a stock ammeter converted to a voltmeter anyway. You could put on 8 gauge but probably not needed. According to the wire gauge calculator 3 feet of 10 gauge wire is capable of carrying 92 amps.

As noted the GM will deliver the power and cheaply. Hard to argue with that part.

What's funny is, when I had just gotten my car and pulled the engine out, I added a huge ground on the front passenger side of the frame. I'm not sure why. So then 4 years later, to yesterday, I get the alternator mounted and there's this fat ground that was never hooked up to anything! Worked out well.

It seems with constant stream of grounding problems posted on here you just can't have too many grounds.

Went to the body shop to check out the work on my body. Then I ran out to Kevin's place.

We built and installed some center console parts..
